liquid oxygen

Looking for some advice , 4 weeks ago I had my oxygen changed to liquid oxygen ( still the same rate 8L upon movement) . The reason being it was hoped I could be more active as the liquid oxygen was about half the weight of a normal oxygen cylinder .

Do other people find liquid oxygen better / easier to use ?

Do people ever run out , before your weekly delivery ?

Has anyone had it completely empty while trying to fill the container ?

Also I’ve been put on morphine tablets 10 mg twice daily , has anyone found these have helped ?

Many thanks

Rich

My oxygen nurse recommended I try slow release morphine but was relectant and chose to stay on the occasional dose of oramorph.

There's a small study here and would be interested to know how you get on

I tried Oramorph 2.5ml when needed but I was reluctant to take it knowing what it was . I think I then struggled with it even after reading what a low dose it actually was I had it in my head that I didn’t want it and when I did take it , it didn’t seem to do anything.

I’ve took a diffent view to Morphine after reading what it hopefully will do for me and it’s not taken as a pain killer 🤦‍♂️😂as I initially thought . I started on 5mg twice a day and then they upped it to 2x10 mg per day and it seems to be relaxing me in the evening especially 🙏

HI, I can't help with the oxygen query but I have been taking slow release morphine tablets twice a day for over a year. I can't honestly say whether they have helped much but they haven't had any adverse effect.

What dose of morphine have you been on and have you took a laxative as well ? Not sure if I’m on a slow release but mine is morphine sulphate oral 10 mg tablets

I’ve been taking sodium docusate 100mg which have also been brilliant

My morphine tablets are MST Continus 10mg, prolonged release tablets, Morphine Sulphate.I had constipation long before taking them as a side effect of other meds. I currently take Laxido each night.

Is that 1 or 2 tablets a day ? Also do they make you dream more ?

One tablet twice a day. I do dream quite a lot but haven't associated that with the mst.

Hi Rich,

Sorry you are disappointed with the LOX.

I use 5LPM when on my feet. I find the LOX flasks definitely easier than bottles, but to be honest do a lot more. I found the bottles really held me back. At exercise class the LOX Flask sits on a chair next to me.

The BIG LOX Dewar ( huge tank ) I have become quite good at planning how to calculate how much I will need before I reorder. It has a series of lights on it which show me how much there is left. I always reorder when there is a little left in the Dewar.

There was one time when it had been over pressurised and I couldn’t fill the flasks. It has never emptied itself and should never do that.

Who is the supplier ? They should fix it the same day . I don’t hesitate to call my supplier if there is an issue. You can’t be left without oxygen. You have a large bottle for emergencies?

Do you have a concentrator as well ?

I find regular exercises really help.

I can’t help you with the Morphine I’m afraid - not having to use it yet.

Let us know how you get on.

Go well,

Pauline

Hi Pauline thanks for your informative comments , I agree that it’s a much better system and so much lighter to carry . I’ve had 4 tanks so far the first one was like yours and fantastic with the lights and getting 4 fills per light so could get 32 fills which equates to 64 hours of oxygen for me . But the last 3 containers have like the one in the photo and I haven’t got on with them at all 🤦‍♂️. One ran out , one was ok and the last one emptied itself when I tried filling my container, so hence my post .

I don’t have any back up or a concentrator as I send them back which I think was a big mistake as I found the concentrator to noisy and the tubing became a hazard going up and down the stairs . Now it doesn’t seem to be on my prescription with BOC . So because of this they won’t come out the same day as I’m considered to be on only ambulatory oxygen

What kind of carry bag do you use as I seem to get a lot moisture on my back pack I’ve used ?

Hi Rich,

Sending you a couple of photos of the set up here. It seems it will only send one photo at a time so will the other shortly. Above is the flask which I fill from the Dewar. I have two of these flasks and one back pack ( as in the photo ) These flasks hold 4 hours of 02 each when I use them. If I fill them and then don’t use them then one will last almost 24 hours before it exhausts itself.

The Dewar usually lasts me about a month but of course I use the concentrator in the house. Am on ambulatory use, ie when I am on my feet. I haven’t actually counted up how many fills into the flask from it, probably about 3-4 a week.

I wait until I have two/three lights left and then reorder for delivery the next day or day after that. Am with Air Liquide who are brilliant.

Can I suggest you speak to your Home Oxygen about your prescription ? Appreciate a concentrator is a bit of a hassle but not sure I could cope with just using LOX flasks at home all day

If I can help you further please do ask and let us know how you get on.

Pauline

My one looks nowhere near as good as yours and my main tank . I’m going to try to get the same as yours as I spoke to the BOC delivery guy today and he said they have had loads of problems with the one I’ve got . But they don’t have enough of the one you have , so wish me luck 🍀

My liquid oxygen container , possibly the same chair as yours 😂

You will have to click the photos to see them fully I think ?

Yes do get a lot of moisture on the sides of the backpack due to the LOX exhausting, as I use, into the air, which is how it works I think ?
