Nose sore from 02

Hi all. I have had a nose sore in my right nostril for 2 years now. Has a scab that hurts and is hard to remove. I tried an antibiotic the ENT gave me for over a year never helped. I've got a little bit of Vaseline in it right now. I have my cannula off for just a bit. Can't leave it off for long. But I know that when my Mom was on oxygen with COPD her nose got sore too. And she always used Vaseline. Never had a problem. But they say not too. But I have tried everything and I can't take this pain anymore. Any ideas appreciated. Thank you

bless, I totally understand, such a coincidence? Just before Xmas I noticed a soar/lump in my left nostril, thought it was a cold soar, had lovely Xmas and in new year I made an appointment with GP.

She noticed it and referred me to hospital (head & neck clinic) Had my appointment pretty quickly and was examined with a endoscopy, consulted noticed it too? He did think it may be to do with my cocktail of medications. Booked me in for MRI. Which I had last week, and awaiting results , before I go to day surgery to have it removed, and send it to lab. So it’s good to check if something is not right is what am trying to say , . Will keep you posted .

Thanks I would like to know what you find out

It's not really a sore that sticks out where you can see it. It just keeps a scab there that can't remove the scab. All I feel is a scab I'm sure there's a sore underneath but can't see it or feel it. I'm planning on asking my Primary about it. See what she says.

Yes please keep me posted. I've been to an ENT he can't even cure it. I'm interested in what you find out. Thanks alot

I had a lesion (not a cut or a sore) in my left nostril that kept opening when I blew my nose. I dabbed it with an antiseptic cream and shortened the left cannula prong (just snipped it with a pair of scissors) so the O2 didn't blow straight onto it. That helped, but it didn't really go away until I was lucky enough not to need O2 often.

I would see your doctor if it continues, all the best xx

Yes I did cut one of the prongs down and it went away but came back.

I've done that too it doesn't help. I cut the prong down for the one nostril it did help a little bit does not get rid of the sore

Vaseline is dangerous if you are having to use oxygen. I was advised to use KY Jelly which is safe for oxygen users and really helps. Give it a go

The KY doesn't heal it tho it just soothes it. And I have stuff for that I'm looking for something to heal it. I'm on oxygen concentrator at home and I use just a dab of Vaseline in the one nostril to see if it could heal it enough to get the scab out. And the nostril that has this problem I did cut the most part of the cannula down on that side. But I don't use the Vaseline in my tanks with Vaseline in my nose. I know we aren't suppose to use it. But I have got to try to heal it because it really hurts. My Mom were oxygen in her nose for years. She used it when her nose was dry. But that's not my problem I do have stuff for the dryness. But I'm trying to heal a sore.

You need to speak to your GP for advice as you really should not use Vaseline if on oxygen

I would also second KY Jelly, recommended by the fire brigade and respiratory team. It helps me a lot with nose sores.

Well this is one that is having a hard time healing. I think I seen where someone had a nose sore and the KY didn't help. I have a scan on it and it's been here since after COVID and it won't go away. I'm using Vaseline right now. Not a lot but hoping it helps. One thing I haven't tried that people say to try is Neosporin I just don't know 😞

KY jelly won't clear up the sore as such but it will help stop your nose becoming dry. Vaseline is not recommended to use whilst on oxygen. I'd definitely say give it a try. You can buy it in most supermarkets too.

My mom used Vaseline in her nose while she was on oxygen never had a problem. I don't put a lot and my nose.prong is cut down for the one nostril. I've tried many over the counters plus Mupirocin from the ENT antibiotic it didn't help either. So until I get something that is going to take care of this sore. I don't have any choice. This is all right now that takes the pain away.
