Unfortunately this experience is common to several of us who have tried to nebulise colomycin. It is a reaction called bronchospasm. I have bronchiectasis but not asthma and I reacted after about ten days. I have also nebulised ceftazidime, which I was ok with and tobramycin and gentamycin which made me completely breathless. I am now nebbing meropenem which so far is ok 🤞🏻I’m afraid that it is literally a case of ‘suck it and see’.

You shouldn't need to give your job up if you can get control of the personal management and antibiotic therapy for your bronch. If oral abs and nebulised are not doing the trick then occasional IV may be the answer. Don't forget that THE most important factor in management is diligent daily emptying of the fluid in your lungs. It rovs the bacteria of the warm wet environment in which they grow. It is your choice to work out a routine for this around your daily activities. I have lived a very full life with pseudomonas since 1986. It never goes away even if not showing in a lab test. The object is to keep the numbers low enough to be able to live a normal life. Good luck. I hope that you manage to get on top of it.

Do you use salbutamol in the nebuliser at the same time? I don’t have asthma but I did have some chest tightness when I first started on the colomycin. I was prescribed salbutamol and that sorted it out.

That’s crazy why not try one of the other antibiotics Littlepom has mentioned. Sorry the salbutamol didn’t help. Thank you happy new year to you too x
