Even though I do over 2 hours lung drainage every day (1 hour morning , 15 mins afternoon, then another hour evening) I still get a tickling sensation and mucus left in the lungs - particularly the left lung which is the worst one. It means I am grunting for much of the day. Annoying for me and my wife. How can I resolve this?

I have brochiectasis, sarcoidosis and lung fibrosis.

I use a Nebulizer, Strerimar sea nasal spray, mometasone furoate nasal spray. The consultant at the Royal Brompton said use the Atrovent inhaler twice, 15 minutes before the postural lung drainage, which I do.

I stopped taking carbocisteine capsules as they might have been causing diarrhea, although it's difficult to know what triggers what with so many 'aids.' Please help.

I find the Lung Flute (mucus clearing device) is the only way to clear stubborn mucus, I have Bronchiectasis and asthma. You need to be able to give a definite blow into the flute which is silent, you should feel a movement in your lung straight away., so you can cough up easily. The only problem I have with the flute is keeping it dry as I use it, have to take it apart and dry it inside with a cloth, annoying but it works well for me.

I have just read up on the lung flute. It is not suitable for those people like me who have severe lung conditions.

Sorry skip work, its not an easy task to clear our lungs, it varies a lot for me too. I’m going to try BOxermad’s nacsys 600mg effervescent tablets, that might help. Thanks skipwork, your post is helpful.

Hi I do clearance techniques in the morning and recently during the day with an acapella device leaving me feeling a bit drained with a little cough irritation, I know what you mean about the carbocysteine it also had a stomach effect on me so I changed to nacsys 600mg effervescent tablets and still get disturbances in my gut so obviously it has a content that is laxative. I have Bronchiectasis, asthma and copd

Hi Skipwork, I have used Carbocistene for ten years and not had any issues with it at all. I hope you find the answer to your problem. Regards Carnut

I use carbocsisteine, it has never upset my tummy. It does help a great deal in clearing the lungs. But no two people are alike.

Hi there, carbocisteine made me extremely nauseous, so now I agreed with my specialist I would take half a dose at night. When I think my bronchiectasis is starting to play up I take the full dose and put up with the nausea to stop an infection and clear my lungs. Sadly we have to choose the least worst thing. The specialist didn't suggest anything to replace carbo so I guess I have to put up with that choice. Perhaps your doctor might know of something else that does the same thing?

Hi Cliff.youve been having tough time of it.i too have the mucous burden with asthma, bronchiectasis, respiratory failure ( among others).I do lung clearance following salbutamol+ hypertronic saline nebulisers.i wait a little while,b4 tackling it as bit easier then to get it up.also,I'm very aware of it being in airways so approx ea 2hours + after eating,I do shorter sessions to get it up.i wake approx 2hrly at night + also do it ea time.i take carbocysteine too.theres just no easy way to cope with it.i do feel 4u.its exhausting but I've got pretty expert at shifting it.ru getting much up in quantity? Ru on a steroid inhaler too? I have fostair and cicleside.i also have allergies with chronic rhinosinusitis, which adds to the problem.i take an antihistamine+ avamys nasal spray+ clear sinuses with chest.id explain to wife how YOU feel, and how hard it is for u to keep it clear xxxxxxx

PS I take many of he 'helps' you use, but I use an Atrovent inhaler because Salbutamol makes me cough. Maybe I was sucking it in to quickly. A Consultant at The Royal Brompton says take 2 puffs 15 minutes before my drainage.Cliff. I wish all we sufferers could all get together in London or another venue to pool ideas.
