Hi folks - me again, newly diagnosed and am just recovering from my first exacerbation which has lasted nearly 7 weeks and still not feeling great. My cough has just about gone althugh still producing clearish sputum. My problem now is my head feels congested which makes me feel really fuzzy headed and blocked up. Is this common with copd please and what can I do to clear it. I have been using beconase nasal spray for a few days but wondered if this a common problem and what do you use? Thank you if you can help me x

clearish sputum and copd do seem to go together. i take the view that as long as it is coming up and not staying down it is a good thing. you do not say but I assume you have had medication for this flare up

Thank you for replying. Yes I have had 3 lots of antibiotics and steroids and a change of one inhaler from serevent to bevispi. Had chest ct done on Sunday but no results as yet. What I was wanting to know is I am feeling congested in my head ( the sort where you want to pop your ears to try and clear your head. Is this also common with copd? I just want to try and fel better and after any advice that might help. Thank you xx

Hi Gladys27What you are experiencing is Sinus infection which effects me when I have an exaserbation. Try inhaling steam. Hope this helps 😊

Sterimar nasal spray might be worth a try. Also dabbing a small amount of olbas oil or vick on your forehead.

I use the Olbas inhaler if it's just a blocked nose problem.

Hi Gladys, I have been using Beconase nasal spray for about 30 years. Although, hardly use any spray over the past few years. Beconase was recommended to me by an excellent ENT specialist who told me that that is the only nasal spray (back at that time at least) that don't cause addiction or harmful side effects typical for many other similar medications. Prior to coming to that specialist, I had 2 surgical interventions on my sinuses because of many problems including polyps. The specialist Dr advised me to use Beconase whenever I need without fear. I never noticed any side effects caused by the spray. Now, it could be that there are some newer, more advanced nasal sprays since then, but, I hope that I don't need any in the foreseeable future. The Dr also advised me to rinse my nose every evening and morning if I want to avoid reappearance of polyps. I've followed his advice strictly and have not had serious problems with my sinuses again, other than occasional inflammation. I hope this is helpful.

thanks, I’ll look for a device and give it a go, anything has to be better for you than taking antihistamines every day
