Hi

I have been using mometasone furoate nasal spray for 6-7 weeks ,I started getting itchy particularity at night ,I rang my GP surgery last Monday and asked for an alternative ,I was told I would need to speak to a GP, I just spoke to a GP and he said he did not believe itching was a side affect of mometasone furoate nasal spray ,I googled it and itching is listed as a side affect,I told him the itching has stopped since I stopped taking the spray.

We seem to have to be our own doctors more and more these days.

I have an under active thyroid , I wasn't believed for years and made to feel I was a time waster and it was all in my head, this is an uphill battle with my GP surgery

Several people on this site have reported similar problems with their surgeries. It's really not good enough. I'm glad your persistence paid off in the end, but why did you have to go through all that hassle? Grrrr!

Hi,

Itching is not listed under side effects on the package leaflet for Mometasone furoate, so I don't think we can be too severe on the doctor. We can't expect him or her to memorise all the possible side effects for every single medicine. Perhaps you should refer the manufacturer to the source of your information and suggest they include itching as a side effect in an updated pamphlet. I find Google very useful, but there is not any guarantee that items found are accurate or of the expertise of the author.

I hope you have recovered and no longer require s nasal spray.

Good morning Uresider

Thanks for your reply, I do not expect any GP to memorise all the possible side effects for every single medicine, I told the GP I stopped itching when I stopped using the spray, that was last Monday I stopped and I spoke to the GP yesterday, I did google mometasone furoate nasal spray side affects and found itching is a side affect .

Doctors need to listen to their patients. Everyone responds differently to medications and we know our bodies! I am very sensitive to many meds and when I feel I and having a side effect I do what you did... go off the med and see if that issue goes away. Then I report it to the doctor. They need to listen to us!!!

In my opinion, we should not be our own doctors.

If you take my advice buddy, when you feel you’re not heard by the doctor - change the doctor.

My wife was using Metaspray nasal spray, which also contains mometasone. She was experiencing nasal irritation and a sore throat. She made the same mistake of googling the symptoms and I tell you man, she aggravated her symptoms by doing that. I made her understand that after reading such things, we tend to get anxious and start feeling what we read. Jeeez, my woman is crazy!

One fine day, I got irritated and fought with her. I counselled her and requested that she stop doing that at once. We consulted our doctor, and he assured us that these symptoms would goo away with time. And guess what, they did!!!

This mometasone 50 mcg nasal spray really worked for my wife, and she is fin and fine after that traumatic experience.
