Dental problems and Osteopania

Hi, this is possibly an odd question but does anyone out there have any issues with their teeth? I have Osteopania thanks to the steroids and in the last month or so I have had 2 crowns fall out and an abscess form above another crown which is requiring surgery to treat. I asked the dentist but he didn't seem to think it was linked. I'm not so sure so I thought I'd as the experts! I'm taking Prednisilone, alendronic acid and evacal plus just been given nasal spray mometasone furoate for chronic rhinitis. Also other meds I've taken long term!

Hello Judith, Pete has very badly worn teeth and a partial denture but he’s not had a reason given as to why. I think dry mouth has something to do with it. Xxxx

Interesting question. You may get more knowledgeable responses from the osteoporosis forum. healthunlocked.com/bonehealth

I take prednisolone, alendronic acid and Adcal too ....I have osteoporosis , and many broken teeth now.

I have had to have extractions at the dental hospital as alendronic acid can cause jaw issues.

Hi Judith and you are telling my story. After years using various dosages of steroids and remain on a constant 9 mg a day of Prednisilone I have lost almost all of my back teeth and sides over the last 2 years. I gave up on the Alendronic acid due to scare stories and also take a long list of meds for all sorts of reasons. Now I am told I have prostate cancer and so begins another story I suppose over the coming months. Its all par for the course but I tell myself it could be worse. Hope you get it sorted soon and know that you are not alone in your thoughts or experiences.

Thanks hallentine47 so sorry to hear about your various conditions and experiences. My dentist says it's coincidence but I'm not convinced but will take his word for it and keep smiling whilst I still have teeth to flash!!! Take care

I have the same problem with my teeth, they are crumbling and one crown has fallen out plus two implants (which cost me £4,000.00p about 7/8 years ago). I also think the cause is steroids. I also have osteopenia and take Adcal Calcium tablets twice daily plus various inhalers one of which is Symbicort.

I just found this thread. It's really interesting to see other people are having problems with their teeth. I have always taken care of my teeth, I brush 3 times a day, I floss and use interdental brushes but for about a year or so my teeth have been crumbling and huge chunks falling out. I have no back bottom teeth either side and bits are crumbling from other teeth now. Sometimes they crumble when I'm eating even though I don't eat anything hard anymore but sometimes when I'm not eating or doing anything a bit of tooth will just fall out in my mouth. I had to go to the dentist a while ago for an abscess and he said I don't take care of my teeth. When I said I obsess about my dental hygiene he refused to believe me and said my teeth wouldn't be so bad if I took care of them. It's too bad I hadn't discovered this forum or this thread at that time. I was so hurt I didn't know how to reply. At that time all my bottom teeth hadn't fallen out yet. I haven't been back to the dentist since, because I was too afraid of him being rude again and blaming me. At least now I would have the courage to suggest maybe it is to do with steroids. Not that I have any desire to go back to the dentist any time soon!

I'm so sorry to hear about your awful experience. I think I'd be inclined to change my dentist although that's easier said than done. X
