Hi All, I suffer from mild bronchiestasis and chronic sinusitis,I’m taking a nasal spray and nasal drops to reduce inflammation in my sinuses but I feel it’s making a chest/breathing worse,Both my chest and sinus consultants are telling me this should not be happening (🙄) Has anybody who suffers from both these conditions had similar issues when taking nasal sprays/Drops.

Some drops are only meant to be used 5-7 days in a row then stopped. I would say its more likely to be the sinus infection that may be affecting you lungs, need to be careful of that as you can get a lung infection resulting from a sinus infection. were you given any antibiotics to clear the sinus infection?
I always take 2 weeks of 750mg Criprofloxcin (on my chest consultant orders) When I have a chest infection,Ive never been told off either my chest or sinus consultant that it’s the sinus infection that’s starting 1st and then that ends up with a chest infection,I’m telling both consultants that my sinuses start 1st and then I have my chest infection but both are saying I should be 100% risk free from the sprays/Drops,I can say with 100% certainty that the sprays/Drops make my chest worse,It’s frustrating dealing with my local hospital as I have a complaint currently going with them as I had a ct scan in 2018 and was told I had no bronchiestasis and then 9 months later a letter dropped through my door saying a mistake had been made and I have bronchiestasis 🙄 It then took them 1 year to start me on medication,Thanks 😊
Hope you get some relief soon. I was told to focus on putting right any sinus issues to prevent the infection to ensure it doesn't affect the lungs.
I just use anything you can buy over the counter, sterimar nasal spray or sterimar cold and sinusitis relief also others I rotate them as some are not recommended to take more than 7 days, you need to check information leaflet.

I have bronchiectasis, asthma and chronic sinusitis. Like Bkin I have also been told (by my ENT consultant) that controlling the sinus problem will be helpful for my lungs and reduce the risk of chest infections.
(The sinusitis also affects my ears badly , making them get blocked up and giving me reduced hearing and tinnitus and so that is another driver for me to control it. )
It wasn’t until about 2 years ago after having sinus surgery (FESS) that the sinusitis stopped flaring up and got more controllable.
I use a steroid nose spray (Mometasone) twice a day and also do a saline rinse using a Neilmed bottle morning and night to keep on top of the sinusitis.
I have steroid nose drops on stand-by for when more is needed and can take them for a week or two then. That happens about 2-3 times a year. Also take an antihistamine (clarityn) daily.
As I have asthma I take a steroid inhaler twice a day too but no specific medication for the bronchiectasis (other than rescue antibiotics pack on stand-by).
I can definitely say that keeping this regime has been helpful for both my asthma and bronchiectasis, no more rhinitis or dripping back in my throat either. Also helping my hearing so win all around!
I have Bronchiectasis and have had serious sinus problems. I have always used nasonex and can’t say it has made things worse for me. When I had my last sinus op FESS pseudomonas was found. The oral antibiotic for this is cipro which you are using but this became ineffective for me and I had to have a course of iv antibiotics followed by nebulised antibiotics. Has your sinus/sputum been checked to see which bug you have? I hope you get some relief soon.
My Consultant has just only asked me to provide a sample of my mucus from my sinuses next time I feel a similar infection coming on so hopefully that will give me some answers
Do you see a consultant that specialises in Bronchiectasis? All my consultants insist I take a sputum sample to GP for testing on first sign of infection. Having said that mine rarely grow anything. I hope they find something on yours. May give you some answers.
Yes I see a chest/Lung consultant and a sinus consultant,My sputum sample also rarely show any germs,It’s like I’m getting told ‘Your sample shows no germs so you should be ok’ Very Frustrating especially when my local hospital first told me I didn’t have bronchiestasis but then just posted me a letter telling me a mistake had been made and I have in-fact got bronchiestasis,Thanks
Its so hard trying to control sinusitis when you have bronch. I have stopped using the nasal sprays as they dont work for me and the antihistamine really helps when i have bad catarrrh but they knock me out and I'm fit for nothing. I then get bunged up. I use the sterimar spray to clean out the nose morning and evening. I use ventolin to help losen things from my chest in the mornings and one thing I have found helpful is menthol crystals in hot water in a bowl with a towel over my head ( you only need a tiny amount as it takes your breath away) after using these i can breath properly and hardly cough for a couple of hours. We are all so different and different meds help different people with the same complaint. I think you have to find what is best for you and sadly that is trial and error. This site is wonderful for giving us ideas and knowledge. I do hope you find some relief x
I've bronchiectasis and also chronic rhinosinusitis. I use a prescription nasal spray - avamys.i used otc antihistamines loratidine or cetrizine for years.recently had sinus infection which a/b cleared,along with prescription antihistamine fenofexidine- its been great for me- massive difference.ive no ill effects frm nosespray.my only thing is it doesn't last long enough so I use x2 ea day.personally,I'd b talking to go bout trying antibiotics he recommends for sinuses
I have Bronchiectasis and sinus l have been on nasal spray drops for years doesn't effect my breathing or make my chest any worse l am on Mometasone 2 sprays in each nostril each day Hope you get it sorted soon and get some relief

Funny that this should pop up on my feed today as I have, only this morning, had this conversation with my dad. He had a course of antibiotics a couple of weeks ago that seemed to clear a chesty cough but has been using an otc nasal spray for the last couple of days. His cough has returned and he is convinced it’s because of the nasal spray. 🤷♀️ Sue x
