Persimmons pack plenty of nutritional punch.

Persimmons are low in calories and high in fiber – a combination that makes them a good choice for weight control. Their mix of antioxidants and nutrients – including vitamins A and C – makes them ideal for a healthy diet.

But for all of the benefits that come in these colorful, somewhat uncommon fruits, it may be their relative obscurity that makes them an even more valuable addition to a daily diet.

Typically in season from September through December, persimmons pair well with both sweet and savory foods – and they offer a nutritious alternative for people who may grow weary of the same everyday fruits, such as apples, oranges or bananas.

I love persimmons but had no idea they're so nutritionally rich. Thanks 2greys 👍

Ah, I've always known these as kaki fruit. I think they're also known as Sharon fruit here 2g 🙂

Ooh I must try them. I assume they’re a citrus type fruit? Thanks 2greys 😊

They resemble a big orange coloured tomato but thicker skin, eat when soft and ripe. A favourite in warmer parts of Europe over Christmas 😋

Since start of shielding I’ve had a fruit box delivered each week from local supplier and they often include some unusual fruits for me to try.

I had a couple Sharon Fruits included a couple of wks ago and found them delicious. Good to know they are so good for you too - so thank you for the info 2greys.

Good to know 2g, I do like sharon fruit and will keep my eye out for them and great to know the benefits. I found out last week that squash has a high amount of potassium so have made a point of buying these a little more often too. I think its good to shop for seasonal fruit and veg as it keeps a balanced amount of vitamins and minerals in our bodies x

I love them, the slightly scented flavour. Buy while the flesh is still a creamy orange colour - if it has gone translucent it has become overripe.
