COVID rescue pack-available but not available!

Tested positive for COVID on Monday and reported results immediately. Got email within a few hours saying since I'm classed as CEV I should benefit from treatments and that a doctor would call me for an assessment.

Next day Tuesday got a call from a doctor, I'm guessing, who mumbled her way through phone call and didn't hear a word I said. At the end of her speech asked if I had any questions and I said from what she said I was supposed to basically self diagnose and wasn't the efficacy of the medication within 3 days? Said actually 7 days and since you've mentioned that I'll refer you to your local doctor.

Waited again and was called later from a guy doctor from my local hospital oncology department 🙆🏽‍♀️ who quickly apologised and said would refer me to respiratory department 🤦🏿

I'm still waiting! And at this rate will probably get better before the medication gets here!

I'm sorry that you have tested positive, hope you aren't feeling too poorly. The situation with the phone calls you received sounds very confusing and somewhat farcical.

A bit lost for words on this one Inonge, I would have hoped for the medication to be given as you are CEV. It seems all the promises made are being conveniently forgotten!! I hope you don't suffer too much with the virus and make a quick recovery. Take care xxx

Thanks HollyBoyd. Would have thought so too. Actually just got 3rd doctor call, this time from respiratory department who asked me the same questions (don't these people write notes?!)

Basically said that the medication is for Immuno suppressed so not suitable! I'm lost for words!!

in reply toInonge1

As my consultant said 'A Dog's Breakfast'. Goodness knows what knowlege of lung conditions the idiot who restricted everything solely to immuno suppressed has!. This has come initially from the UKHSA, chairman Jenny Harries, who boast that they are responsible for the health of the nation. Oh Yes !! Altogether Now 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yep......my husband had a very similar phone call!! Why send priority packs if you're not eligible?

Hope you don’t struggle too much Inonge. What a complete balls up. We are certainly left to cope alone. It’s just beyond me they are not prioritising people with damaged lungs. Cx

I feel so guilty reading this, as I will not get the medication because of my Asthma, but because I am on (the dreaded word) immunosuppressants for my Crohn's Disease. This is the first time in about 35 years, I do not feel too bad about the Crohn's.

Hmm, still not sure I’d swap with you 😂 but I’m glad you’ll be looked after.

Every help is deserved in especially long conditions as covid is a respiratory illness. Don't ever feel guilty .

So.. Like you I'm CEV & was told originally I would get anti virals. However, on Monday after covid positive test spoke to a GP(well.. Argued with her) who said I wasn't eligible despite bronchiectasis & pseudomonas.

Checked with my consultant, who agreed with her so did a bit of research.

Seemingly omicron is more lung friendly & so must not present the same challenges to us lung patients as Delta did. I was very disappointed & annoyed at first but as I'm not too poorly with it at the mo I suppose I understand their chain of thought.

Hope you're better soon!

Sorry to hear you have caught Covid. I do hope you start to improve really soon. This anti virals situation stems to be a right carry on. I do qualify as I’m on Biologics injections weekly for my Rheumatoid Arthritis as well as having Asthma & Bronchiectasis as well as currently having Long Covid from August when I caught Delta variety. I never received the pack with home PCR so doubt if I test positive I will be able to access the anti virals either. It’s all so random & confusing. Just rest up & look after yourself. Take care

Thank you. I also thought that the asthma and diabetes would qualify me but hey why make things easy😀

I am very annoyed that we have now been thrown to the wolves by this Tory Government. The whole system of 4th dose vaccine, anti virals and now free LFT's is totally wrong.
