Hi there: I thought the course of Doxycycline was 10 days? I think I would rather it be 7 days, it it did the trick. But my G P issued 10 days. Best wishes.
It should be 10 - 14 days for those of us with Bronchiectasis. I need to educate my GP. There is a letter on my file from my consultant, and the respiratory nurse was supposed to have flagged it up on my record but I was so unwell when I saw the GP it didn't register that I should check how long she'd given me.
I was given 7 days of Amoxicillin, 3 x 500 a day, which certainly helped. I have just been prescribed Doxycycline 1 x 100 a day for 7 days to hopefully sort it out. I was told to take a 24-hour break between finishing the Amoxicillin and starting the Doxycycline, which I will start today. Unfortunately, all done over the phone. I think my GP is waiting for my appointment with the Respiratory consultant comes through, I have been waiting since August 22. Anyway, thank you for the 10-14 days recommendation. It seems I too have to educate my GP, either that or photoshop a few degrees and become Dr. Bob. Take care.
I’ve been told different things at various times by doctors! They’re different classes of drugs so taking them together won’t hurt you, but as they’re both broad spectrum you shouldn’t need to & might increase the likelihood of side effects. I agree with the others, you should have a minimum of 10 days
Hello. I would say when it comes to medication we can tell you our experience with it, but we are not doctors nor are we chemists. It is more advisable to confirm this with the doctor or chemist who prescribed this for you. We simply are not qualified to advise you on how to take your medication. Best wishes. 🙂👋
My rescue pack is amoxicillin and I carry on taking my prophylactic antibiotics as instructed by all my GPs and consultants. I suggest you ask them as it may be different for everyone.
hi there….stop the Azithromycin as you are taking a course of Doxycycline and restart them when you have completed the course. The Aziththromycin is given to help prevent an infection. Get well soon x
since I started 3x a week Azithromycin (500mg) I’ve only had one chest infection - in 5+ years, and I was told by my gp to stop taking the azithromycin while I was taking the Doxycycline.
Hi, I’ve just taken a course of Doxycycline for a sinus infection and the GP advised me to stop my Azithromycin for the duration of the course. Hope you start to feel better soon.
Hi. I would make a telephone call to your surgery and ask for a telephone appointment with either the duty doctor or pharmacist. The pharmacist at a GP's surgery are called independent prescribing pharmacists. I would not seek advice from a high street pharmacist as most have not had the extra training required to prescribe. Good luck!
