Hospital lung function test? - Lung Conditions C...
Hospital lung function test?
The test is more involved. One part will put you into an airtight glass box type and the physio will inform you of what you have to do. No pain involved but can be tiresome. Look it up and you will see the procedure. Mine lasted 1 hour and ten minutes but i also had to do a 6 minute walk test after the procedure. This was just last week at Addenbrookes hospital
I’m also at Addenbrookes Will57 👋
I've undergone a few tests to see if I can qualify for a Lung Volume Reduction operation. All done now and have, i think, my final meeting with the consultant end of October to find out the result
Best of luck ☘️ Hopefully you’ll qualify, it will seem an age until you’re appointment 🤞
They're not very efficient are they the health service with things that affect your quality of life in my view!
Hi Will, my consultant mentioned lung reduction....did you have ct scan before your lung tests, just trying to work out if ct scan was ok as only just had app for lung tests, hoping I may be a suitable candidate ? X
Spirometry is lung function testing Skatergirl. It maybe you’ll have more comprehensive testing than you did before. I only had to do 2 of the tests - the glass cubicle & the gas exchange.
Hello Skatergirl1 . 😀
I've only had those really long lung function tests at the hospital. They took almost half an hour to complete, sometimes a bit longer. Not to be a know it all of anything, but I found having a relatively empty tummy helped me feel less uncomfortable during it. And wearing loose clothing.
I hope it goes well. Good luck! xx 🍀🙋🐾
Hi Caspiana, thank you for the advice, my app is at 10.00am, so 1 slice of toast it is...thanks again xx. Hope you are continuing well with your recovery 😄💝
At least at 10am it's done with for the day. When I went to outpatients last year my appointment was 3.45 in the afternoon so I had all day to worry about it and I had cried in relief when I was discharged from the chest clinic then.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I am not worried, just wanted to know what to expect and thankful that it is a more in-depth test x
Hi
I had this.. it turned out to be all basically the same as my spirometry...they just wanted to see how the tests compared to each other.
Paul
Did you blow into the test with computer. I am not sure maybe it's extra precaution because ct scan might be showing something.
Hi Skatergirl, it’s nothing to worry about, it’s just a more in-depth way of measuring your lung function. They will ask you breath in certain ways throughout the test. You could feel a bit tired after it, I have to have one every six months now.
Good luck, hope the results are good. xx
Hi Skatergirl1. Cant offer any advice but just hope things go well for you. Thoughts are with you.BRIAN
Hi I’ve had several over the past few years. You are in an airtight box & have a mask which was have to blow into on command. Then it’s repeated several times. Then will a nose clip on if I remember correctly. Lots of holding your breath then blowing out either fast or slow. You are talking to the technician the whole time. My last one was in May but still not got my results which is ridiculous but no news is good news hopefully.
Tested in May and still no results? That seems odd to me. I just had a lung function test (glass booth) a few weeks ago and my pulmonologist showed me the results 5 minutes later. Not that I understood them. Best of luck to everyone.
Are you in UK? My follow up was scheduled for August when I would have expected my results but they are running behind with appointments as usual. I have rang several times. GP hasn’t received anything either. No news is good news I hope.
I'm in the U.S., but please don't think I'm suggesting our health system is better. I just got my PFT results quickly. Other than that, my doctors have not done anything to make me feel better. My breathing deteriorates by the day.
I've had several, from the simple (blow in here, get a printout), to the full ( glass box, computer graphic's etc.) - the latter just before heart surgery, which usefully improved my COPD, or lung function.
The chap doing the 'full one' was so busy watching the graphics on the screen that he forgot to tell me to stop breathing out - everything went black and I literally 'blacked out...' - my daughter caught me on the way dow to the floor !
The moral of the story ? Make sure the chair you're on has side arms to support you, or have a friend close by. Funny but very true....
