What a morning

Well I was at the hospital for 7am today all ready for my sinus op. After the usual wait got into my gown etc and spoke with the anesthetist, after all the usual checks my high blood pressure caused quite a stir. After much talking they decided the risk of bleeding from my nose was too high and although they could bring the bp down they said this could cause a stroke, so it was cancelled and I was sent home to start my new meds and monitor my bp for a couple of months and start again. I know its saftey first and the op can wait, but I so wanted to get this over and done with today, feel quite frustrated. Just hope the next appointment doesnt take as long as this one did x

Oh Irene what a disappointment but i suppose they have to err on the side of caution and as frustrated as you must be i imagine that you will now be top of their list once your Bp is stabilised.

i wonder if it was artificially raised by the events taking place and the normal degree of anxiety we all feel immediately prior to a procedure but i do hope that it can be normalised swiftly and you can get that op done soon, thinking of you my dear on this frustrating day.

Love and best wishes Ski's and SCruff's xx

Thanks hon, my blood pressure has been high for a very long time, it could have crept a little due to events, think it is just the way my body works, but it is not comfortable when lower so goodness knows.

Oh heck! How frustrating for you, but then it is for the best. Some might have said “Oh bugger her, she’s here now let’s get it done”.😉

Oh dear, that is disappointing, but safety has to come first. Hopefully things will resolve themselves with a little help and you can get this done and be feeling much better. Wishing you all the best outcome, even if you have to wait longer than you would like. Take care. X

How disappointing for you. And how frustrating to have to wait all over again. I guess though like everyone else has said, it's so much better to be safe than sorry.

Hi HH, yes very frustrating, I feel like I have waited so long to get this sorted and everything was planned this year to get myself fit again. I have an appointment next week with rheumatology, if they start me on medication like methotrexate then I will have to come off it again for this sinus op and will be going round in circles. Seems like one step forward and two back x

That is a disappointment Irene but the hospital are thinking of you and are right to postpone. You will be better when the op next comes around.

Wishing you well. Xxxxxx

Oh my Irene. I know how it is. You get yourself mentally prepared and then it's in vain. I can imagine how frustrating it was. I suppose they had to be careful and sure that you would come through it okay. Thinking of you. xx 😘💐

Thank you Cas, I am very good at taking things in my stride and dont worry too much about it all, but I have waitied so long to get to this point, its just knowing I will be back at square one. Lets hope the surgeon will get me back in quickly once under control x

Sorry to hear of you getting all hyped up for your OP then they cant do it. I think everyones singing from the same song sheet that your safety comes first. Keep your chin up and will be thinking of you this afternoon x Maz

in reply to Izb1

Can I ask what was the sinus OP was for. I have problem sinuses which they think are causing infection in my lungs so was wondering if that's the same for you. Hope u dont think me cheeky for asking x Maz

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

No I dont think you are cheeky Maz, this is how we learn. I had a exacerbation over 18 months ago and was really poorly, the antibiotics didnt work, in fact nothing did. I kept saying that it was all in my nose, anyway, it turns out after doing the rounds at the hospital the ent chap did a ct of my sinus's and they were all infected. He put me on a long low dose of doxycycline and steroid nasal spray and found that the bend in my nose was holding the infection, he also told me that polyps develop with this problem. I have lost my sense of smell with constantly blowing my nose and think i have shares in Kleenex ha! Hence the reason I am was so disappointed this morning. But all is well, it will get done at some point. Hope this helps with your problems x

in reply to Izb1

Thanks izb1 I've to go for another ct scan in November for sinus problems as last one showd nothing up. GP thinks my constant lung infections which I've had 5 since (January ) could be caused by bacteria in my nose. Constantly on antibiotics. Thanks for answer and I hop you feel more rested tomorrow . Maz x

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

Ask them to ct your sinus's, that way you will know for sure. Its not good to be on and off antibiotics, it destroys your immune system and we need that to be in tip top form. I use a nasal spray called Sterimar morning and evening to wash out my nose and am sure this has helped. I also take vit d3, c, K2 MK7 along with magnesium and have a really good diet. Keep us updated on your progress and hope you get sorted soon x

in reply to Izb1

What sterimar one do you use. And I've not tried magnesium and dont know what K2MK7 is can u let me know. I do take vit d and omega 369 and b bits already and like you a good diet. Thank you for that

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

Sterimar for congestion or allergies. K2 MK7 helps my bones, magnesium i get from holland and barratt 250mg and helps with tiredness. Think you need to look after yourself more when you have lung diseases and help the immune system work better. I also drink kefir to keep my gut healthy. We can only try and these seem better than the drugs which wreck your system. Hope this has helped a little xx

in reply to Izb1

Thanks for quick reply izb1. I use sterimar but wasent sure if it was the right one. I've just got the 1 for allergies and hayfever. Dont know if it's ok to use this one. Going to get magnesium asap and add to regimen. I cant take kefir or caramel kind of things do take daily live biopics from Holland and barrett. They help greatly when on antibiotics. Goodness theres so much u think you know then there's more Good Night and thanks again Maz

I use Neilmed Sinus Rinse to keep my sinuses clean. This was recommended by the allergy clinic of the Royal Nose Throat and Ear Hospital. This is in addition to Sterimar. and I find it better. Do look it up.

Such a difficult experience going for surgery and it being cancelled! So sorry you had to face this,

Take care, Nina

Disappointment, yes but as you say, the medics have to ensure that the risks don't outweigh the benefits etc. Hopefully in a couple of months you will get the go ahead. Fingers crossed!

Thank you SH, yes Im hoping it will only be a couple of months but fear it will be after Christmas the way the MRI works, but hey ho, my health is more important, so will just go along with this x

How frustrating for you! Their decision makes sense , better safe than sorry! I had cataracts done about 2 years ago and the nurses said there is no way Doc would do the op because my BP was so high. He did thankfully so I knew when I was there for the 2nd op he would go ahead regardless. Was he reckless ? Nope lol.

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to Gladwyn

Wow, they went ahead anyway. I will just have to live with my sinus problem until things improve

How disappointing. At least they were taking your whole situation into consideration. Good luck with reducing your BP so that you can get the sinus op very soon.

I had a heart attack last June took into hospital and because I said I was allergic to red dye after they asked me was I allergic to anything and told them. They ended up having to ring my drs, hospital etc and on the Wednesday said we’ve tried the Above places and there’s no record . This had happened approx 15 years ago. Transferred to the freeman hospital who put a stent in, I was allowed to go home that day with tablets. 2 of these ta let’s were blood thinners then in August I had blood in wee went to GP who sent an urgent request to the hospital and I went for the apt and was told they were going to do a cat scan. Went for cat scan ready for The scan but on my notes allergy red dye (this hadn’t been taken off my notes that I was Not allergic to red dye so they wouldn’t do the cat scan. I had an apt with the cardiologist and I asked him was I allergic to red dye he told me he had used red dye and I wasn’t he said 15yrs ago yes but they changed the format or something like that. Went straight to the dept and told this and I had an apt the next week everything was fine. I was furious when they wouldn’t do cat scan at first as you Sykes yourself up for it plus I could have been doing something just had a pacemaker put in and guess what even tho I told them I wasn’t allergic to red dye on discharge letter allergy to red dye even tho I told them I wasn’t what have you got to do for them to hear what yr saying it annoys me.

Good luck.
