Think I have Sinusitis as all the symptoms. I have severe COPD does anyone else suffer with this. Been told by my surgery to ask Pharmacist for medication. Any advice will be appreciated . Apparently it is common to suffer Sinusitis with COPD.

It is common to suffer all sorts of problems, there are heaps. No one warns you though, even on here, because they will be censored

Yes I know as I was diagnosed in 2010 so I have lived with COPD for 9yrs. However, I did not associate Sinusitis with COPD. Hoping for some advice about Sinusitis and medication. Also how it affects COPD..

Thanks

Sheila

Hi garshe! Me too! My Sinus are bad.they start draining and I take Mucus Relief 3x a day. This thins out the mucus! I use my neti pot when really plugged! If I don't it will all go in my lungs, I get infection and Bronchitis. Then I am really sick because of my COPD! Use nebulizer daily, flutter device a few times daily and my inhalers! Hope this helps! Janet127

Thanks Janet . I have Mucodyne so will take that more often. Got given Sudofed at Pharmacy really wanted something more significant. Spent all day going Round in circles. One Pharmacist didn't have a clue..had to go to another. Whatever happened to the lovely caring Family Doctors we used to have. Now can't get to see a doctor sent to Pharmacist who know nothing. Feeling really down at the moment as need this sorted.

Thanks

Sheila.

Nasal rinse ask Dr to prescribe avamys spray. I rinse first then nasal spray. I tend then to rinse two more times mid afternoon and before bed.

Hi. Mucodyne only works for the lungs, unfortunately not the sinuses. For those I use a steroidal nasal spray nightly to keep the sinus pressure headaches at bay.

Sinusitis is usually an infection, minute particles can get to the respiratory tract especially via post nasal drip.

A saline nasal douche may help you (Neilmeds via Amazon along with the saline sachets). You can make your own with sterile water but I've absolutely no idea of the ratio of sea salt to water. There's also Sterimar ready made you can get in pharmacists and often supermarkets here in the UK.

Good luck. P

Thank you for the advice. Will give it a try. Not getting anywhere with the Pharmacist, and the Doctor isn't interested either. Thank goodness for the BLF.

If you live near a 'well known' supermarket with late opening you could begin some relief tonight. Sterimar is in a white & blue aerosol type container.

Thank you so much. Wish I had known about this before leaving for the Pharmacist. Neither of the Pharmacists mentioned Sterimar. I have researched it and is exactly what I need. Will get it first thing in the morning. Thank you so very much .I feel relieved as sudafed is not the answer .

Thank you

Sheila.

Hi garshe, I had quite bad sinusitis a few years ago, over a couple of years and have wondered since if it had anything to do with being on the seretide inhaler at the time, I don't get it any more.

I am on Sirdupla inhaler. Is that the same. I have had problems before but put it down to hayfever, although I never suffered before. Hoping I can sort it with Sterimar as Doctor no help not Pharmacist. One Pharmacist t9kd me to take Nurofen 😱 when I have been warned don't take any medication ending in FEN. Idiot. Anyway hope it sort it soon as never associated COPD and Sinusitis b3fire.

Thanks

Sheila

I'm curious to know why you've been advised not to take medication ending in'fen' ?

I read your previous posts about turmeric etc and have started taking them too. It's a bit early to say if I feel any benefit but I'm optimistic . Thanks for sharing info 😀😀

Don't know. My Doctor and COPD team told me . Only take Paracetamol. Never take Nurofen, ibuprofen or anything ending in FEN. When you have COPD. Don't know the reason..

Interesting, Palm-Tree-11. I'm on Seretide and notice I have to clean the back end of my sinuses every day as food and drink particles get lodged there.

Also what might help..Steam a towel...get it hot! place it over your face (When you can stand the heat) In America we are getting all kinds of allergies right now, because everything is blossoming! I stay inside, windows shut...on these days! Flonase helps...Janet127

Yes I have sinusitis too, headaches, blocked nose, facial pain, discharge sometimes. Worse when I lie down .

I was advised steam inhalation....I have tried Sterimar with no benefit. Antibiotics can work for a while , but it always comes back. There are drainage points which you can press too, but that hurts.

I don't know if it's the side effect of my medication, or my poorly breathing pattern.

It's horrid, I sympathise.

I inhale with Friars Balsam when I have chest infection. I use a babies cup that has a beak...but be careful because it stains. It is an old remedy that a Surgeon in a major Hospital prescribed.

That's the last thing you need to be struggling with, I would keep going back until they offer something. Although a lot of the suggestions you've been given e.g. Sterimar & turmeric are tried & tested by members with long experience. Hope you get some relief soon.

Thank you. I take Turmeric and will buy Sterimar when I go out later. Unfortunately My GP is not helpful. The Pharmacist was even worse. He commented I may have a heart condition or high pressure so wouldn't give medication. My Surgery told me to go to there. I told him I check my BP every day and it's normal and I do not have a heart condition. Ridiculous. Thank goodnessfor this site as everyone is so helpful and supportive.

Thank you.

Hello, I suffer with bronchiectasis which is similar to COPD. I also developed sinusitis which left me partly deaf in both ears and have to wear a hearing aid. My consultant said there was a build up of mucus behind the middle ear. He could put in grommets but it would be highly likely that because of the lung problem it would eventually happen again. My own doctor said not to have the operation as scar tissue would build up after the incision and each time I had the mucus drained scar tissue would make me deaf anyway.

I wish you well as a fellow sufferer who understands your frustration.

Mine is sorted now thank goodness. I take Mucodyne. Also Sterimar Congestion relief. Most effective Olbas Oil in my Humidifier. My problem I found out was not being able to cough up sticky mucas. Now I don't have any as thins out with oil. Hope you can sort your problem Sheila
