Welcome OscarRain, I joined this forum about 3 months ago and found everyone so friendly and welcoming. Hope that you get some responses that will be of help to you. I have Heart & Lung issues (and several other health problems) and suffer with breathlessness. I try to avoid going out when it is really cold as I know that is a trigger for me, I get breathless very quickly. Some of the others on this forum may be of more help to you than me. Assume that you have seeked medical advice!

Thankyou snackjack, yes I'm getting medical treatment but it's nice to talk to people who are actually suffering from this awful illness. The breathlessness is debilitating, not helped by being stuck inside

I agree it is nice to be able to talk to others in a similar/same situation. Yes breathlessness is debilitating, and not always understood by friends who have no idea what it is like. Take care.

Welcome OR

I don't suffer any of my health issues, but I do live with them :) (I don't want to convince myself I am suffering so I don't use the word to describe my situation)

Plenty of tips, take a look around.

If you click on the word Posts above then look right, there is a search box you can search posts on the British Lung Foundation community.

You might like to search for specifics, COPD and Back pain for instance or pulmonary rehabilitation, Exercise, etc.

Another way to become familiar with community topics is (again click on posts) Look right again and scroll down a bit to Topics, then click on the words 'see all topics.

Lots of reading for you. Enjoy :)

Also for education purposes BLF's home pages you may find of interest : blf.org.uk/

Best wishes BK

Hullo OscarRain. I have COPD, Osteo & Rheumatoid Arthritis, degenerative spine. 4 & 5 decompressed & fused approx 13yrs ago, further surgery pending 3 & 4 with extension. But I can't see myself coping with a G.A. Breathlessness markedly increased this last year. Sudden deterioration Spring 2020 thought to be allergy, but v modest response to antihistamines. More recent frequent distress markedly alleviated by discontinuing Naproxen, my best friend for many years. Our bodies are not static.

From my own experience I would recommend exercise, however modest but frequent. Too much rest exacerbates the painful spine. Physio gave me a little routine which I can keep up. Indeed, I couldn't manage without. Attention to diet & gut health also v important. Exercise also loosens my chest. Although not capable of anything ambitious, I do push myself while walking. Awful when I start out, gets enough easier to make worthwhile.

Best wishes & good luck OscarRain. Keep in touch. Our experiences help each other.
