Moggie57 no I can't say I've had palpitation I do get waking up because I'm suddenly chocking and can't breathe frightens the hell out of me I'm sure u must feel the same best wishes x
Hi moggie,
How thick am I? Had to check the meaning of "palpitation" (Jeez, what a plonker!).
Anyway, on to my (now knowledgeable) reply: yes I have COPD, no I don't get palpitations.
That said, I used to wake at night heart beating really hard, sweating, headache, feeling like my head was wrapped in cotton wool, unable to think properly ... then they found out that I had sleep apnoea, gave me the CPAP machine and (most nights) I sleep like a baby - but the other nights are still horrible ... but symptoms are much less.
So, thank you for education me [palpitation] and I hope that my answer helps you.
best wishes
Hi Moggie, yes I get palpitations but usually in the evening, but not all the time it's very intermittent.

I have COPD and, yes I do have palpitations when I get breathless, and my body goes into panic mode as a result of its producing adrenaline. I've learnt to control this to an extent by pacing myself and using pursed lip breathing if and when I'm SOB
Not particularly at night, can be any time of day. I don't have COPD though.
Went to doc three years ago, she took the pulse in my wrist & said "oh that's nothing, everyone's heart misses a beat sometimes". I mentioned it to my new GP the other week he just said it was nothing unusual. Both times I thought what a waste of time that was because neither time was I actually having a palpitation.
I do think you should have it checked though.
Reading your post has made me realise I haven't noticed it since starting mild antidepressants a few weeks ago.
hi know how you feel, my sats are 98 but I cant walk ten paces without getting puffy ,my ocky health nurse agreed we were all missing something and she would keep at it to find out why.
she got me to take my sats four times a day after taking Ventolin and make a graff of the results for a week it showed I was missing beats ,the doctors take these thing for granted
Hi Moggie I was getting palpitations and a very fast heart beat. I was checked out my a cardiologist who came to the conclusion it was caused by my COPD and prescribed a low dose of beta blocker.
Yes I get palpitations for different reasons. If my lungs are working hard to get oxygen into them then sometimes I get my heart racing by breathing in to quickly and not breathing out slowly enough, like lynnekay learning to control your breathing helps a lot. I also have chronic hayfever and when I get a lot of allergens in my system it can feel like a roller coaster or a Star Wars battle scene is happening in my blood stream as my white blood cells go charging around trying to fight the baddies.
Cheers
Sue
Hi, A couple of you admit to having palpitations. What medication do you use? I tried Bisoprolol but found it interfered with my breathing.
When the palpitations start my heart rate usually hits around 160 bpm and I can feel it thumping in my upper chest region.
Cheers.
Hi ,I have had palpitations a couple of times at night ,,,but I realised ,,,I'd overdosed on my ventolin inhaler ,,,,silly me ,,,,,nothing more sinister than that ,
Hello Moggie,
I don't get palpitations but I could quite easily start worrying over what the nurse said to me - that I have a very slow out beat. I never questioned it, maybe I should, but just thought, Oh blow it - I'm here and it's still going so I just carry on. I am sure someone on here will be able to put your mind at rest by offering advice.
x.
I get woken up by palpitations, ,my pulse is all over the place even got giddy and fell over a few times, get it checked out I was diagnosed with paroxysmal fibrilation , put on pills which don't work had the dosage increased a week ago still no joy.
now I have to see the hospital for an ablation, this was caused by bronchiectasis and copd, ive read on the net that a lot of the drugs don't work an it can take a few ablations to stop,i live in dread with the thought of them working inside my ticker
Hi Moggie
You should get your GP to refer you. I had this and a racing heart at times. I had lots of tests including wearing a small machine for 48 hours which continually measured my heart rate etc. I was found to have atriall fibrillation and some irregular beats. Have been on medication for 6 months now and things are much better. I still have the fast beat that goes with COPD but it doesn't go at ridiculous rates now. I am also at much less risk of stroke.
Good luck, get it sorted.
Thanks for the replies. I thought I was going nuts, as the first doctor I saw ignored all the symptoms and when I said I was having palpations he said poor you.
Sweating plus abnormal palpitations shakes in legs and feet x
