Having been prescribed Qvar at an emergency doctor's appointment we found when visiting the resp nurse that it's not certified for COPD... I did notice the blurb stating it was an asthma drug but who am I to argue with the medics? At least it seemed to be beneficial.
However we've now started on Trimbow, by all accounts something of a breakthough in COPD treatment. I know it's only been available a short while, but any reviews?
I kept very quiet at this last appointment so that my husband could explain to the nurse a) how carbocisteine didn't agree with him, b) why he'd prefer an inhaler to going back to oral steroids and c) why Pulmonary Rehab wasn't for him... to her credit she listened very patiently, but I had to smile when she slipped in how she knew a little more about COPD than perhaps he did... Sorry Susanne, I just felt it important for you to see what we're dealing with...

I have bronchiectasis and obliterative bronchiolitis and QVAR is not certified for those either, because it is for asthma, but my consultant prescribed it as Fostair gave me palpitations. The QVAR works well and doesn’t worsen the atrial fibrillation, which I have permanently now xx
Hi I do wish some of these medics would listen to people with the disease and stop thinking they know it all. I can’t take carbocisteine, the capsules give me terrible shakes and the liquid give me awful cold sweats. I was recently given furosemide for swollen feet by a doctor who didn’t know me. This medication made me extremely anxious and very panicky. When I saw the doctor again he wouldn’t listen and told me it couldn’t be the medication. If he had actually put a google search about this he would have found I was correct. Let’s face it we know our bodies and we are not all the same. Moan over😫😫 Barbs x
I have been taking Carbocistiene for about a year. I have IPF. It does help in clearing my throat and getting rid if the phlegm that build up. I did try and come off it but I got much worse and couldn't clear my chest. It took a good three weeks taking it again after a month off to get back where I started.
I have very mild copd/asthma. Apparently with older persons it is possible to have a bit of both. I started with qvar a year ago 2puffs twice a day. I am now down to one puff once a day. Exercise is very important to me.
