I've been on a course of Antibiotics for a week, and they don't seam to have helped my mild infection.

Has anyone had the same problem.

I'm still chesty, no mucus and feel very tired, and pain in chest and back.

I suffer from Alergic Asthma and Bronchiectasis

Yes I had the same thing happen except I have COPD. Had AB earlier this month and just finished another AB a couple of days ago but also have pain in the chest and the back. I am going to wait a few days to see what happens and may have to go back to the doctor again but hope it will clear up before I go back.

Hi both of you!

Did you get steroids? You may need steroids and antibiotics first time around, I was told years ago by this lovely respiratory specialist who moved to St Mary’s. She taught me that and that finding the right inhaler was the key to asthma..

Then there is the added problem of giving the antibiotics that match the bacteria, a wide spectrum one and varying it..I must have had years of clarithromycin..and doxycycline when it didn’t work..

Good luck both of you xx

Yes I did have steroids both times. I think things are finally improving but will have to wait and see.

Thank you

Thank you, me too.

If you have bronchiectasis, having chest pain and the other symptoms you describe needs looking at. In a normal exacerbation of bronch you would have lots of extra mucus. In that case you would need the right antibiotic, in a high enough dose for at least two weeks. It does not seem that your GP has tested to find out which bug is there and one week of antibiotics is not enough. Steroids are not usually given in bronch unless the person also has asthma because they mask the symptoms of infection. I see that you do but as it is reactive I would think that you know when you are having that bad enough to need steroids.

As you say that You are not coughing up mucus but have all the other symptoms I would suggest that you get checked for pneumonia. Do you have a fever? I walked around with it for six weeks two years ago and my GP missed it three times because they were looking for the usual symptoms of a bronch exacerbation. Do go back to your GP and ask that they send you for an xray at least and do something about giving you the right antibiotic treatment. Good luck. I know it is hard when you feel so awful but it is your ongoing health that we are talking about.

You may find that the rotting leaves may be the trigger. I had a similar infection when they started to drop. Try the "Huffing technique" to see if the mucus is being stubborn?

Thank you.

It's just another infection

You may need a sputum test to ascertain the correct antibiotic for the problem and you GP can arrange it.

My heart is fine thank you, I've had tests for that, my infection is still lurking about, so doctor has given me another week of Antibiotics.
