Hi Nanny, Don't worry, I had thrush they said it was because of antibiotics I got it.

I had a liquid (Nystan) which you coat your tongue and mouth with.

This usually gets rid of the thrush.

Take care. xx

I'm surprised your doc didn't suggest taking probiotics with your antibiotics. If you can get some capsules ASAP & take them fir a month they will sort out your whole system. AntiBs kill off all your good bacteria so you need to get some back in your system.

Also some plain live yogurt helps a lot. I use Yeo Valley every day.

Starve that thrush of sugar and it will due off even faster.

Take it easy won't you. Peege

Ooooo starve of sugar ,,,,does that mean chocolates to haha,,,,,I was told by copd team to get GP to give me antibiotics for it ,,,but to be honest I'm so sick of taking them ,,,,I've been taking them ( different ones ) since early December,,,doxycycline, clarithamycin, amoxicillin, and azeuruthamycin ,,and steroids ,,,,,so I'm trying to find a cure without them ,,,,,,,I'll give it a week ,,,,then if nescasary I'll get some ,,,thanks for the advise ,

After all those antibiotics no wonder you've got thrush!

I wouldn't leave it if I were you, it can get worse and once in the osophogus is not very nice.

Thrush is a fungus so antifugals is the only treatment - not antibiotics, whoever told you that was talking from somewhere other than the mouth end!

Good luck

Can you expand on your answer ,,,,,,ie; so I need ,,,antifugals. ,,,,,? Such as ,,,excuse my ignorance

Antifugals are prescribed by the GP. If the thrush was really bad it would be tablets but normally they'd prescribe Nystan (can't spell it) , drops I think that you put on the oral thrush area.

I few weeks ago I had a bit of thrush starting from ( caused by inhalers & not rinsing well enough). I bought some over the counter Daktarin in a tube. It doesn't work as well as the Nystan though.

Fungal infections feed on sugar, that's why I suggested you cut it out for a couple of weeks. Peege

I had a round of Thrush once, a couple of weeks after an antibody regime. I made a fairly strong salt/water solution, which I rinsed my mouth out with, probably every hour or more. I bought Greek, non-sweetened yogurt, and kefir, and ate it in massive doses for ...??? 5 days..? till thrush was gone. (by that, probably one large container completed each 2 days). Keep mouth and teeth more than immaculately cleaned at all times. If you eat, clean immediately! No sugar. No milk. That is so important, I'll repeat it: no sugar. If milk is consumed, rinse mouth out completely, brush, rinse, salt water..

Then, one day, I noticed... seems a little less.., no, seems gone. Didn't take that long, either, just tons of the real yogurt and if you have or can get them, a probiotic or kefir.

Good luck, as it is surely awful!

Where did you buy the kefir from willdo, or did you make it? I'd like to start taking it.

Thanks

No, I didn't make it. Bought it from a Walmart, actually, in a city about an hour north of us. It is a huge one, and because of local demand, they stock a lot of that and other more holistic items. They even stock fresh beets WITH beet greens!

Thanks willdo; didn't realise you were American. No Walmarts here unfortunately. I'll keep searching here for kefir as I've heard it's the best way to take probiotics which I'm a firm believer in.

:-)
