I have had antibiotics lately and have thrush in my mouth. I have been prescribed Nystan to take 4 times a day. The nurse /practioner said also rinse my mouth after using my steroid inhaler. The problem is do I rinse and spit or rinse and swallow? Swallowing is so much easier

thrush in mouth
- Antibiotics
- Inhalers
- Mouth ulcers
- Fungal infections
- Genital tract infections
- Mouth, throat and dental infections
- Nystan
I had a lot of thrush for a while and was prescribed Nystan, which worked very well. I was told to rinse and spit.
I prefer to spit rather than swallow traces of the medication. Spit down the basin, the loo or a wodge of tissue if nowhere near the bathroom. For good measure I wet my mouth and throat before each puff as well as after each puff. I so don't want traces of the medication in my digestive system or soft oral tissue 😫
After an experience of oral thrush in the past I avoid sugar (which feeds the fungus) and eat plenty of live yogurt plus pre&probiotic foods.
Call me obsessive but I've read some horrible stories of thrush in the windpipe or esophagus so I do not ever want to repeat my episode.
I gargle and spit.
Rinse, gargle and spit always.
I use Nystan and I swallow. It's a matter of preference but swallowing will get rid of thrush you could not have done with spitting. Some like to spit, it just preference,

Hope it soon clears. I always have in stock daktarin oral gel for thrush which clears it quickly
I used to have Daktarin. is it as good as Nystan Pat x
I always rinse and spit it seems better out than in. I also eat as soon as I have done this x
Oooooh thrush, it’s very unpleasant isn’t it - hope it leaves you soon ?
I rinse, gargle and spit a few times after using the steroid based inhaler or using a short oral course. Works for me.
Go well,
Pauline
