Just out of hospital after a bad episode. I was told by one of the nurses that I had overdosed on Ventolin, something my doctor said was impossible! Be warned.

I know that it can cause the shakes but not sure of anything else. Pete has been taking more since having this bug that is going around but he seems ok so far. I will check by reading the leaflet though. Hope you are doing better now and thanks for the post. xxx

Ah, tractor man - that happened to my daughter! She had a bad asthma attack (she was only 8) and I was told to use the spacer and give her ten puffs on the inhaler!! Oh boy was she poorly - shaking violently, vomiting but at least she could breath!! Hope you are feeling much better, take care, TAD xxx

Rubbish, it's totally possible. Can't believe some of the things Im reading today that healthcare people have been saying :(

If you've been using it so much, do you need to discuss a medication review with your GP/team? Seems like you need a preventative as Ventolin is only a reliever. Or a stronger preventative of some kind if you are already taking one.

Thanks for the warning and hope you're getting stronger :)

curious mine says then same?

Hello Tractor-man

One of the principal treatments in hospital for breathing problems is Nebulisers which give a strong dose of Ventolin (Salbutamol) in liquid form, so blaming your hospitalization on overdosing is rubbish.

How much is too much? I have had severe emphysema (FEV1 32%) for about seven years and during that time I have been given conflicting advice by doctors and respiratory nurses so I have formed my own rules; Use Ventolin as much as required to keep my breathing under control 'but no more'. When my breathing is bad this could mean up to four puffs four times a day (No more than four puffs in one dose), when good I may not use it at all.

I have suffered from shakes when overdosed on Ventolin and it is not nice, so minimise Ventolin use without compromising your breathing.

I hope this helps and you get better soon

I was not blaming hospitalisation. I did it myself (unknowingly). The symptoms I got did not include the shakes. What happened was that my breathing, instead of being relieved by the Ventolin, started to get worse and I ended up in hospital.
