How much ventolin do you get through, One puffer lasts me about a month but I know someone that used one a week so I was wondering what the average use was to us COPD peeps.

about the same as yourself, unless things are bad and I have to use it more than two puffs twice a day!

about the same as Mocarey and neb when its really bad

i use 11/2 - 2 a month unless am really bad and need the nebuliser - its one of those things you only use when you need it so i spose its a " how long is a piece of string" question.

i was told by the hospital resp nurse to take 2 puffs 4 times a day no matter what which is what I've been doing for the past two years.

That's what they put on the pharmacy label for me at first, now it says 'take two metered doses when required'

My (former, she's left now) COPD specialist at the GP practise told me that I should use the blue salbutamol (Ventolin) inhaler to relieve any sudden or irregular instances of shortness of breath. I tend to use it more when I feel that I'nm getting SOB, like halfway to the bus stop. I'll probably use it again a bit later, when I'm not gasping quite so much and can hold the dose instead of it being expelled straight away.

At other times I should be maintaining my daily doses of salmeterol (green inhaler) and Spiriva (hand-haler) to try to prevent any SOB.

Because of this the amount of Ventolin I use varies a lot. I get 2 per month on repeat prescription and that's probably my average.

Please note, this is what I've been told to do and is probably not what most people would be advised by their GP. We all differ in how we react to things and what treatment we have. If in doubt, check with your GP first.

Salbutamol has been prescribed for me amongst other sprays,my consultant has prescribed "four puffs upto four to six times daily". I must admit I try not to use it as much as that but it is

Nice to know that it can be used that often. On the occasions that I have had to use it so often there has been no adverse effects.

I am unsure of the use allowed or expected even after having spoken to the surgery nurse yesterday by appointment about how I am using all inhalers a purple spray and ventolin and spiriva of course. Use ventolin once a day two puffs although will use a bit more now I know from these replies its fairly safe to do so.

I get 2 ventolin on repeat prescription and I was told by the resp nurse it's safe to take up to 16 puffs a day. I have to say I quite often need to get a repeat after 3 weeks but then again, I take more than 'normal' when I have an exacerbation. (which is quite often). Also, it seems you can usually tell if you are taking too much 'cos you get the shakes!!

I have 2 Ventolin inhalers a mo nth but GP said if possible use as little as possible because if I needed emergency hospital treatment the Ventolin would not have such an efficient response. He then said but if you need it use it.So dont know the answer

Thanks peeps, so 1 or 2 a month is pretty normal then. I usually have 2 puffs of ventalin first thing in the morning and then 2 puffs of Seratide purple puffer then another 2 Ventalin at lunch time and then the 2 Spiriva and then 2 Ventilin and Purple puffer in the evening.

Then I have a puff of Ventolin when I feel I need it. One of my docs once said have as much as you like as you can't OD on Ventolin.
