If it is only 7 day course you do not need to be weaned off.

Lots of us here have same 'pack'. So if we are unwell can start taking straight away before get appointment with GP.

One thing to consider is I carry a steroid warning card - from chemists. I write down each time I take a course of steroids (which happens a lot) and keep card in my purse. Just in case I am involved in an accident and can't say have been taking steroids.

Teaky, give the BLF a ring, click on the red balloon at the top of the page for info, I am sure they will be able to help you with this.

Good advice from Bevvy! M x

Hi, My husband always goes on the steroids and antibiotics and just stops taking them at the end of the 7 days. He has been fine and never any problems - only eats like a horse when on them!! I would advise to take the tablets - if you can see the doctor today see the doctor but if you are feeling so ill there is a good chance it is an infection. Don't hang around and wait to see if you feel better - please go to the doctor. Take good care, TAD xx

Because you feel so rough I would take both. But agree with comments to speak to BLF and GP. Hope you feel better soon.

The last two time my husband has had breathing problems, he phones his copd nurse and she advises him to just take the steroids as he doesnt seem to get chest infections luckily. Seems to do the trick anyhow :)

like most of us I have always a 7 day emergency supply of steroids and antibiotics take them when I need to for the 7 days it is only if you have to be on steroids longer than 7 days that you need to wean them off and your gp is the one who will recommend you have a longer course of steroids and hoe to wean them down

I have a prescription in my handbag for steroids and antibiotics I take 8 steroid tablets once a day for seven days it is a high dose but needed when you have a flair up

No need to worry about weaning off the steroids after 7 days. You only need to be weaned if you take them for 3 weeks or longer.

Hope you feel better soon
