I am on a reducing dose of steroids too .

Down from 5 mg then 4 mg , now 3 mg a day .

Breathing got much worse , so had to see a GP . Still feel rough .

Please contact your health professional , ask for advice .

ALUK have a helpline too .

Sending best wishes

Hi Keith, I've often thought the same thing. I was started on a 60mg of steroids back in March. Within 2 weeks I was on 1L of oxygen on exertion. I was admitted with pneumonia in June and I am now needing 2L oxygen at rest and 5L on exertion. Breathing is terrible. I'm hoping that will improve as I taper.

Hi Keith, I had COVID/flu in April this year which took almost 3 weeks to clear. It left me wheezy so doc sent me for x-ray which showed an infection and was given anti biotics,, I read somewhere that with this latest strain of virus you can get complications weeks after. Not sure if any of this will help you. good luck

Steroids hide a multitude of aches, pains and ailments but it’s best not to stay on high level dose fir too long. There is and excellent PMR/GCA community on HU. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck.

Coming of steroids has to be done very slowly to avoid adrenal shock, if you breathing is getting worse as you reduce your steroids perhaps you need to increase the dose. Something to discuss with your nurse or doctor, for some people staying on steroids is the only option

I became seriously depressed after taking Prednisilone with my antibiotics for an exacerbation.

My husband developed Temporal Arteritis' a long time ago this is a very close relation of Polymyalgia. Steroids then were the only treatment given 80mg a day reducing over a period of 12 months until condition had settled. Although the steroid dose is very high without them you will become very ill.
