I have been living with PTSD for a year now due to being involved in a traumatic incident experienced in the course of my job. My employer is now sending me for EMDR therapy which seems to be helping with the symptoms but which is also causing more anxiety. Anyone out there experienced this?

Hi
I've had 24 sessions of EMDR for trauma.
Initially I did get a little anxious, because it was dealing with stuff I had locked away in my head for so long.
But I did find it a very positive experience, and I do feel now I have managed to let go of all that trapped trauma which I do think had a lot to do with me getting anxiety in the first place.
I also feel as if I've grown up a bit, as I felt like a little scared child inside, but now feel more like an excited teenager whating to expience looks of new thingss. I'm 53
Hang in there, I'm sure it will have a benificial effect.
Wishing you well

Hi hun yes I've just been through emdr and it really does do what it's supposed to. I was apprehensive to begin with but it helped almost immediately and I no longer have nightmares or flashbacks. They tell you there's a physical response to every unresolved emotional issue and since completing emdr I have got rid of many physical ailments too. I was really ill 6 months ago but I'm doing really well now. Keep going love eve x
Have you had any counselling about your experiences?
Have had 10 counselling sessions which didn't really help. The EMDR is emotionally draining and was extremely traumatic at first, but I am assured that it will get better in time.
Sorry this is so late in responding just joined this part of the forum. I find EMDR does increase the anxiety to begin with but sticking with it brings excellent gains.
