Does Living Alone Make Anxiety/Depression Easier To Cope With ?

I have lived by myself for a few years now. However, I do remember when I was living with my g/friend. And the pressure to "be normal ' was tremendous. I was always running about at a hunderd miles an hour hoping she would not notice my panic.

For me, bit opposite as I feel calm when my husband is around me but on my own I feel bit anxious and worried. Guess all people are different. Don't worry :-) x

Hi.swan. It depends if you are an extrovert or an introvert (Jungian terms). Some people like being on their own and would have it no other way. Now me, for instance, much prefer to be in company, but my wife could be on her own on a desert island and find something to do and not worry. Either way is normal for the person concerned. Trying to put on a brave face when living with someone must be very taxing. It is a pity your ex girlfriend could not help or that you could confide in her. Must have been awful for you. If you have coped for a few years then perhaps living on your own has given you more freedom from trying to pretend you are OK. Best wishes. j.

Hi Swan

Think there are positives & negatives for both !

I am sometimes really pleased I have my husband about , then other times I sit & think I would cope better on my own ! depends what mood I am in lol

It is a positive though but I am a woman knowing I have some one to watch my back ,& if needs must he will step in for me

I am very open with him though & even though he doesnt fully understand he tries really hard to support , even today , I said my nerves feel bad & his reply was "yes I have noticed " he seems to really no me , may be i should count myself lucky !

That has perhapes been the lesson I have learnt from your post ! be more grateful for what I have got ...when in states of anxiety we can forget !

I don't know what I would do without my husband . He is my 'rock' and I just feel a whole lot safer when he is around. He is very patient and tries to be very positive, which I must say, would be very hard at times with me !!!
