I will have to paraphrase this saying as I am not sure from whence it comes. During the early dark days of WW2 King George VI sent a radio message at Christmas to the Commonwealth. He said, "I said to a man who stood at the gate of the year, 'Give me a candle that I may see my way into the darkness'. A voice said, 'Reach out and put your hand into the hand of God and you will not need a candle'".Those words sustained a whole Nation in bad times and I suggest they may help us too. You will know I am not 'religious' in the general meaning of the word, but these words have comforted me in times of adversity. May YOUR God go with you. Love. jonathan.
Liz has added the correct version. It begins... "I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year............ (corrected).
Many thanks liz. J.
