anxiety hangover?

hello everyone, I just joined. I am at my wits end. Actively trying to get help but I have a question.

For the past 2 days I have been feeling like I’m hungover….. but I don’t drink anymore. Exhausted, stomach hurts, brain fog, muscle aches. I can’t get enough sleep. I’ve also been having anxiety attacks the past 2 days. I googled “emotional hangover “ today and found something called an anxiety/panic attack hangover. This is a real thing? Has anyone else ever experienced something similar to this?

Welcome Millionbelles to a great caring forum.

As to your question...Yes there is such a thing as Anxiety Hangover although I've

never put a name to it myself. But the Mind/Body Connection is a powerful one.

When one suffers so does the other. Anxiety is terribly wearing. It's like running

a race or being in a marathon but going nowhere and winning nothing.

Anxiety starts in our mind and the more we fear the thoughts and the what ifs,

the easier it is for our body to start physical symptoms of distress.

It's an automatic response of our body. The hangover feeling comes from the

free floating anxiety that is left over the next day. Adrenaline that has not been

used up. It will go away. I'm so glad you are here with us. :) xx

hello, thank you so much for the warm welcome! I needed that today. I never thought about how much the mind and body connect. I’ve had this hungover feeling before but today was the first day I actually looked it up. I guess I’ll take care of myself the next couple days and hope it subsides.

Hi Depranxious, derealization can come from overwhelming anxiety and/or

depression. Usually that is more of a fleeting feeling. If it becomes bothersome

or long lasting, it should be checked out by your physician who can address the

issue. Sometimes it can be a physical issue causing that feeling. :) xx

What you are feeling is very common after having a prolonged panic/anxiety episode. For me it was a very physical experience and I would feel somewhat depressed and fatigued for days afterward and have similar sensations as you are experiencing. The brain is also directly connected to and influenced by our gut (the gut-brain axis) so having digestive issues is very common.

Yes it is. I have been having pretty severe anxiety and panic attacks for 3 years now, and my body tends to go into fight or flight mode which causes my body to tremble and shake. Later I’m sore, tingly, and very tense. From what I’ve learned our body uses a lot of resources and energy during a panic attack, so feeling hungover after one makes sense.
