Came off 7.5mg 2 months ago after taking them for approx8 months side effects were what stopped me taking them.Since coming off them I have experienced insomnia, nausea, headaches, lightheaded ness, fatigue and weight lose from not eating enough calories! Some people have no withdrawal symptoms I understand, I would also like to know how long this can last! Sorry to not be of help to you just hope we get through this and feel better soon!

Hi blacknight,

What symptoms are you experiencing the most? I was on mirtazapine but made me too sleepy and sluggish through the day. I was ok when I came off it apart from feeling crap due to the lack of a present anti depressant. Did you come off it gradually in stages as directed? Usually over 5 days decreasing the dose.

I started taking duloxatine and felt unbelievably dreadful for about 3 weeks before they kicked in. So I'm thinking if you have been prescribed an alternative you won't feel better until that one kicks in. Maybe a serotonin booster (like duloxatine) will help you.

Speak with your doctor and tell them what's going on. It won't go away if you just close your eyes :)

Mirtazapine was a perfect fit for my sleep disturbance. After 18 years, it stopped working. (Haven’t slept since, pretty much 3 years.)

I dropped from 45mg easily to 30mg with no problem. Now I’ve ordered 3mg capsules from my compounding pharmacy. I’m just completing my first month at 27mg. 24mg next. Nearly a year to go!

These heavy psych drugs are easily prescribed but NO physician cares to learn how to deprescribe & wean them. My emails to the manufacturer met an obtuse responce.

You’ve only been on Mitazapine 8 weeks not decades. I would not be surprised if you feel worse than you did with the reason you started taking them…for two months. But you should start feeling less symptomatic within 2-4 weeks. It's a grind but stick with it!

Most docs need a hard kick, eh! Hope you’re feeling better soon. And do not take any new med until you research thoroughly what it takes to stop it.

Hi there - if it helps, I’m also trying to stop taking it. I started a year ago in a bid to get some sleep (work stress etc keeping me awake). Was on 15mg at first then 7.5mg. I stopped taking it almost 2 weeks ago and even from a small dose like 7.5mg the effect has been immediate. Back to disturbed sleep, waking in the night with thoughts racing etc.

But, the good thing now is I recognise it for what it is and apart from being tired next day I am feeling clearer headed than when taking mirtazipine.

This is my second attempt to stop taking it btw, so hope I do better this time.

Sounds like you have similar reasons to me for taking this so always happy to compare notes if it helps!

This is my first post on here btw.

Good luck!

Also, you are taking a higher dose than me. Doctors would advise a staged reduction. But, if that doesn’t work for you, I do find exercise helps if you can find time for it.
