Yes! I’ve lost two jobs due to this and I’m trying my best to keep my current job. My work performance is always great but attendance isn’t the best since I always feel sick

Oh my gosh yes! I’ve lost many jobs due to this. It’s usually due to attendance. There will come a point where I stop going in and become even more anxious and never come back. My current job is fully remote and that helps a lot. I still feel lousy a lot but I’m home and can walk away for a minute or pet my cat, and that makes a big difference to me.

I had to find a job while in the depths of economic depression while suffering from severe generalized anxiety disorder. Plus, I felt extra 'weight' as I was the breadwinner for our family. In my mind .... there were no jobs to be had in my area ... it was all doom and gloom.

However, I didn't give up. I pushed on no matter how bad I felt.

I interviewed for a choice job at City Hall. They called back for a promising second interview. Then ..... there were tests to take.

One part of the test was a typing test. I wasn't a typer. Still in the throws of anxiety, I set about practicing typing until it was time to take the test.

The Official Tester explained I would get two attempts to pass and a computer would be scoring me.... I had to type better than 50 words per minute. I could feel the adrenaline, anxiety and jitteryness build inside of me, but I took some deep breaths and held it in check.

The computerized test began ..... letters .... numbers .... special characters .... caps and lowercase ..... addresses. It was all there. The font seemed too small to read. My fingers felt thick and inflexible, however I carried on. After about 10 minutes ...... the computer beeped and the test was over.

He came to me and said ............. You've FAILED the typing test. However ..... you have 1 more chance to pass it. If you fail this second attempt your dreams of city employment are over. Now, the pressure was really on because city hall jobs were some of the choicest careers in the region.

I sat down ..... composed myself .... and began the test all over. After what seemed ages the computer BEEPED and the test was submitted to the Tester.

After a while .... he walked over to me with a solemn look on his face .................... and said you've PASSED by 1/2 a word.

I got the job and it changed my Life.

The moral of the story is this: you can't let anxiety dominate you; you have to get out of bed in the morning, face it, and press on no matter how you feel (because in reality anxiety is just a paper tiger. It can't really hurt you). It's part of the healing process.

Slowly over the course of several months ...... with the introduction of calming supplements, lifestyle changes, retraining my faulty thinking, and natural therapies ....... the GAD faded, and today I am pretty much symptom free. There is hope . . . . .

PS ... none of the dread I had about the job and what it would entail happened. The people were nice .... the job was reasonable .... I had plenty of 'restroom' time and breaks. All the prior gloom & doom was just anxiety again trying to rain on reality.

Good Luck! and press on ..........

Hi everyone thank you for replying!

It’s crazy how much anxiety can take over your life. I swear sometimes I think myself unwell and worry myself sick!

I think the pressure is on more than ever because this is a job that I can pursue as a career so I’m desperate not to mess it up.

No company likes people taking time off and when you suffer health anxiety I just feel you end up unwell a lot of the time.

I just want to hold this job down and not be that one they let go because of attendance😔 x
