Scared I have heart failure

I am anorexic and I weigh 40 kgs and I’m concerned I have heart failure - I have been having shortness of breath when lying down and things like that. However I’ve been to the hospital and had a chest X-ray an ecg and the doctor said my lungs are clear so I’m not sure what this is. Please help ? Thanks.

Hi Sarah, my daughter is also anorexic. She experiences the same issues as you.

Her cardiologist (after testing) said that it's not her heart, it's that she is in a

deconditioned state. Her electrolytes are off frequently which causes these symptoms.

Not having enough calories can cause physical and emotional symptoms as the body is

in "starve mode". Since I am not a doctor but a mother to an ailing daughter, I can only

suggest that you contact your doctor and/or therapist for help. My thoughts are with you.

Hi Sarah, what Agora1 says is really true. The deconditioned state from anorexia can and does cause many symptoms.

I was intensely anorexic in my 20s, and it has impacted my overall health.

For starters, if u have not gotten help with the anorexia, please do so without delay. Your low body weight is affecting all your body systems and dragging your health down, and in the process, causing symptoms which in turn is causing a lot of stress and anxiety, which in turn exerts other consequences.

You need to see your GP for a full physical. Are you under an anorexia specialist?
