I take propanalol 40mg once a day, does any one know how to wean off this medication. I feel 40mg is too high for me and would prefer to take 20mg can I just do this by cutting the tablet in Half.

Don’t want to go to my doctor as I am awaiting a 6week wait for an appointment and already have issues to discuss.

Thanks

Hi Krasykat, you have to be very careful when it comes to lowering or stopping propranolol,as it is a betablocker and works in conjunction with your heart rate and can be dangerous to cut down or stop without the advice from your GP!? Maybe you can call your GPs surgery and ask for a doctor to give you a phone appointment so your GP can give you advice and probably give you a prescription for a 10mg dose!? I’m currently taking 3x40mg daily and have been on this dose for 12 years and have been warned to never come of this drug without my GPs guidance!? I hope this helps and take care. John.

I agree getting off any drug like that should always be under a physician order or have one following you!! Why do you feel it's too much? I would like aber said call your doc and see if maybe a nurse or someone could talk with you about it if you can it would help them to have your blood pressure and heart rate written down, maybe take it twice a day for a few days to give them a baseline of what to go off of!

I was on the same and told to take twice a day. But when I went back to the doctors, I told them that i didn’t really want to be on it and didn’t want to depend on medication and she told me that I could just take one when I felt it necessary.

Check with your GP first but I was started on 40mg which was too high, it made me feel like a zombie so I cut in half or even quarter sometimes. I don't take it every day though, just when I need it.

Hi everyone!! I’m not sure I have a fluttering/bubbly feeling in my heart and at the end of my last appointment I mentioned it to the doctor and she said to book a double appointment next time as that will need to be looked at as it could be from propanalol. Also read that they can make you quite tired and give you nightmares both of which I’m suffering with so I’m just not sure if the dose is too strong for me.My next appointment isn’t until the end of July and I have health anxiety so naturally I’m freaking out!! My doctors don’t do phone calls it’s very rare you would get them to ring you back & the receptionist are quite rude. :(

Hey iv been on and off then for years, I have taken 40mg for about 8 months now, as I mentioned I have had chest fluttering and pain but I’m not sure if that’s from propanalol the doctor just said it could be and to mention it at my next appointment.
