You gotta keep fighting your mind

It is terrifying, I know, you feel like you can't breathe but it won't give you a heart attack. It will pass.

hypercat54 profile image

No it won't. You only have a heart attack if you have a heart condition - do you? Even if you do it would be very unlikely at your young age as it's normally much older people who do.

Your anxiety won't kill you so relax. it is frightening but not life threatening. x

I used to fear the exact same thing but something I have learned is that your anxiety won't kill you. Even when it feels like any day it could, it never will. Keep fighting, you're not alone

Hi my Name is nick I wanted to be at help to you anxiety is your body’s defense of Resistance as of me I was fighting my conscious decisions that things needed to change in my life I have struggled with porn and results of stopping it was spiritual warfare one night as I was sleeping I had a bad dream demonic I woke up being attacked this sent my body on a flight mode for months as of December 2018 I was down on my knee praying I felt helpless I couldn’t sleep I had panic attacks my hear murmured hit flashes I couldn’t sleep as I woke that night in The Jaws of the Shark well after many month if praying and through Jesus help Eating exercising was very important

It won't. Your body is a machine primed for fight or flight. Like others mentioned, yes, a pre existing heart condition maybe, but just keep visiting your doctor for well visits. Otherwise, anxiety is key to survival. Without it, humans would have all been devoured long ago. Your heart races because it is your mind seeing threats. It beats not to kill you, but to save you. Obviously today, this is less helpful as we're anxious about the rough meeting ahead at work than something proper like a lion, bear, or whatever beast after us. It's old school wiring in a modern world. Some of us are just more sensitive. The heart is a powerful muscle. Think about any physical exertion you've done....the heart maintains. Alas, I have the same fear and all we can do is treat ourselves kindly, get well check ups, exercise, eat well, and lower the risks of heart problems that may never be an issue. But the heart and anxiety? They're linked to save you and I promise an anxiety or panic attack cannot kill you alone...no matter what your mind says. I still have to fight this battle in my mind as well. Try some meditation and or mindfulness. It helped me reduce the feelings of worry I had with my heart during anxiety when deep breathing dramatically relaxed my cardiovascular system. Tons of good advice here and I hope you can find comfort and confidence knowing anxiety is merely just a pain in the rear...old technology in a different world :)

Not going to happen, unless you already have a heart condition? I'm going to be 65 and have been dealing with anxiety and depression off and on for about 36 years. No heart attack

Hi apayett24, you have to satisfy the physical side then mental next. If you think you have heart problems, get it checked, go for ECG, 2d-ECHO, STRESS TEST, CT-SCAN, CT CALCIUM SCORE, Check your cholesterol levels - CBC or SPEC23. If the results are normal, then you are at low risk, especially if you don't drink alcohol, smoke, have diabetes, excess weight. Use these as basis that physically, you are okay. As for mental and emotional healing, it will take time. You have to determine your triggers and try to overcome them little by little. For me, even up until now, everytime I feel pain, whether in my back, left chest, arms, legs, stomach, I automatically think its something serious, fearing there's a problem in my heart or might be having a stroke. It's like my nervous system is faulty thus my brain interprets normal-pain to something urgent when it shouldn't be. I prefer not to take meds, trying to see if I can help my body to heal with proper clean diet and exercise/meditation. You can do it.

Sometimes I think a lot of stress/anxiety comes from thinking you have to excel in everything. Remember it is OK to be good (not excellent) at what you do. People who develop heart conditions are said to often have “Type A” personalities. It is OK to not seek perfection or expect perfection from others.

If you go through life demanding absolute perfection from yourself & others you are more likely to wear your heart out sooner than later.

I see Type A personalities live long, but they seem to have engrossing hobbies. So cultivate your hobbies if you are a perfectionist. It is OK your hobbies yield good (not outstanding results) too.

I feel bad I can’t be more helpful. I don’t get out as much as I use to myself, but I did seek a second opinion a few months ago for a thyroid condition. While out I picked up a used book on depression that I have started looking over. It says Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most common treatment for phobias. And that CBT can help you learn to respond different in situations that cause anxiety.

I also on this same trip purchased a paperback book by James Cowart called The ABCs of Coping with Anxiety about using CBT to manage stress & anxiety (crownhouse.co.uk). It looks really good, I hope to read it soon. I also hope you figure out how best to reduce your anxiety.

If you are scared, I would definitely talk to your Doctor, to get the right treatment. Panic attacks are the symptoms of flight or fight, caused by our brain chemicals in survival mode.

I have had constant panic attacks for 5 weeks and did not die, and I am 61. If you have a cardiac issue you, know of, them, definitely see your Doc. You should be on a treatment that works, as no one can funtion in the real world with panic.

How did you withstand a panic attack that long? I have them randomly and feel miserable for days after. :'(

I had one 5 days ago, and am still fighting my heightened anxiety (along with the heart attack fears) even with meds.

Hope this helps :)Hi,

Your anxiety is likely caused by stress so I would recommend you try herbal adaptogens such as ashwagandha, reishi mushrooms, schisandra berries etc. Don't try ginseng as this is too stimulating. Good apaptogens aree realxing whilst at the same time they give you energy and focus. Amazon is a good place to see reviews on what ones are relaxing. I recommend you use licorice (tea or extract) and drink tulsi tea in combination with an adaptogen. When using adaptogens it is a good idea to rotate them and use a different one every four weeks.

Healing crystals are also great for anxiety and choose whatever ones you are drawn to. A good start is rose quartz and green aventurine.

If possible try not to take yourself too seriously. We all probably take ourselves too seriously.

Black tourmaline is also great and makes you feel secure and grounded. You can use several crystals at the same time.
