So I’m staying in an isolated rural area by myself with the nearest hospital a 3 hour drive away and there is no one out here to help me. I’m really worried I have menegitis as I’ve been feeling unwell and feverish all day with a slight sore neck and have just developed a sore throat. I’m scared to go to sleep because I fear I’ll never wake up. I am so so worried, my orients are overseas and there is no one I can call to help me. What should I do?

Hi Sarah,
You probably couldn’t even count amount of times I swore I had meningitis. It took me to the urgent care a couple of times as well. The doctor told me this once tho, if you have meningitis you KNOW. She told me a big symptom of meningitis is not being able to bend your head down or look down because the pain in your neck is so bad. You’ll see me bending my neck up and down all day long when I have have a meningitis fear to assess the pain in my neck, and usually it’s not bad.
Neck pain can also be caused by tonsillitis. ESPECIALLY when you have a sore throat. I had the same thing. Also, if it is the deadly bacterial meningitis (definitely not saying it is) symptoms occur rapidly and you would be really be in a fast downward sprial within a few hours.
Just breathe. No matter what you’ll be ok. I wish someone told me this all those times I thought I had meningitis.
You can always call 911 and any emt can examine you and determine if you have any major issue that needs hospitalization. I would do that just to be on the safe side if you are feverish. Could be a cold, the flu..anything.
