Hi any one had this experience ? Was in a lovely deep sleep last night. Then suddenly in middle of the night woke up gasping felt like I was suffocating or had forgotten to breath.it was rather scary and I jottled upright in bed.only lasted a minute and I was so tired I lay back down and fell back to sleep.I was wondering what had caused it ? As I was relaxed and not anxious when I went to bed.any one else had this happen ?

I have had this happen before. It’s very scary. I tried propping myself up on another pillow to help. It didn’t happen very often so I didn’t get checked, but it could be sleep apnea. There’s a very simple test called a sleep study that your doctor can order to see if you need a mask at night to help your breathing while you sleep. Lots and lots of people use it. It helps your overall health if you have it. Or, it could have just been a deep sleep like mine seemed to be. Good luck to you 🍀

Thank you for your reply .I used another pillow and rubbed some Vick around my nose and on my chest, put a pillow behind my back to stop me rolling over onto my back,as I usually sleep on my side.had a wonderful sleep and nothing happened don't know if it was the Vick or extra pillow ? But I will be using both again .hopefully was a one off.

I had this last week and have had it before although not recently.

I woke up and no matter how hard I breathed in I couldn’t get any air into my lungs. I was making a weird noise and after a few seconds started to breath but I had loads of mucus in my nose and I was coughing.

Yes, it’s scary. I have asked my husband to put me on my ventilator if it happens again as that calmed it down.

I suppose the large amount of mucus which came from nowhere and has not bothered me since, might have caused it but it is very scary.

Let’s hope you don’t get it again.

Best wishes

JJ

Think I rolled onto my back and had runny nose anyway and like you mucus or nasal drip must of caused it.but extra pillow and some Vick vapour rub seems to have sorted it last night.thank you for your reply.

Sounds like sleep apnea. If this is not something you deal with often, I wouldn’t be too concerned.
