I started taking Zoloft back in August and I never weighed myself. Once I started taking it, I noticed that I was craving sugar and carbs more often ( I never craved sugar or carbs unless I was on my period). I felt like I was gaining weight but I was exercising every night. I recently weighed myself because I could tell I gained a bit. Once I stepped on the scale I found out I had gained 20 pounds. I’m so shocked that I gained that much over a short amount of time. It usually takes me a while to gain that much, knowing that I was exercising as well. Has anyone else had this problem? I’m going to my doctor on Tuesday to talk about switching my meds. I’ve become extremely self conscious and depressed once I found out I gained that much weight. It’s basically made me more anxious. I feel like I don’t have control because the meds are making me gain weight but I need them to feel ok. Please give any experiences you’ve had!
Zoloft weight gain: I started taking Zoloft... - Anxiety Support
Zoloft weight gain
I gained a lot too but I’m losing it now while still on Zoloft. I didn’t notice how much I was eating!!!
All the ssri cause weight gain in a big way. There may be a few exceptions but the majority of people will pack the pounds on. I won’t take ssri but will take Wellbutrin.
Think of it his way... you obviously don’t look bad like you think because you didn’t even know without stepping on the scale! I rather gain weight then have anxiety!
I gained that much on Zoloft too! It’s crazy I’m so insecure now!! I’m trying to lose it but I’m having a hard time
I was on Fluxoetine for a while and never gained weight, but since taking Mirtazapine, I have packed on the pounds. I think every anti depressant affects people in different ways. To some extent I think they will all lead to some weight gain, only because once you start to feel better and don't have that horrible feeling in your belly all the time, you actually start to enjoy food again. But, I do think the effects are temporary, and I don't believe the tablets themselves make you gain weight, other than make you crave carbs if that makes sense. I found that I had got used to overeating and needed to stop snacking and control my portion size (which is something I used to automatically do before the mad cravings). Could always try another anti d, but I have just tried to think that the weight gain is temporary and not as big a deal as being a total wreck.
