Hi, I’m 17 almost 18 and have had anxiety since I was 14 (well had it before but 14 is where the real problems started) I also have ibs and is a part of the ibs network on this website too. I hope to help other and for other to help me. I have had problems leaving the house and joining in with anything really. I recently have been put on propranolol for my anxiety.

Hi..i'm a lot older than you and suffer from anxiety...i tried everything from counselling to different medications but it never helped that much...i decided to start getting out more to quiet places for walks and planned them so i didn't go near a lot of people...along the shore through quiet parks and although it was very difficult i did see improvements in my anxiety and depression then my Doctor suggested propranolol and i thought i'd give it a go as i do get fast and irregular heart beats when my anxiety is high.
At first i saw no difference but after a while i noticed my heart rate was always low and steady even when i was anxious...i'm not saying i'm cured but feel a lot better.....i take 3 x 20mg a day...it took me a while to get the right dose but i feel a great difference now and in no way feel addicted to them they just give me that bit more confidence and hopefully they can do the same for you....give them a chance but try and combine it with going out short walks at first then longer ones.
I wish you well and if you feel they don't help after a while tell your Doctor because there are more medications and help out there and eventually you will get something that will work for you...don't be afraid to ask that's what Doctors are there for...John
Many years ago my brother had the exact same symptoms as you to a tee at the exact same age. He’s a college professor now. 🙂 You will get through this.
Been put on new meds and hoping to be able to go on to be a paramedic
