So had a great day at work , no stress . Drove home and when arriving home I had to put the bin out it’s about 500 metres . As I got half way this horrible feeling came across me , funny pressure feeling in chest , could hardly breath , couldn’t get my breath , cold feeling in my back , weak legs , dry mouth . I slowly walked back to house and felt shocking . Went inside and checked BP 180/110 ?

This happened nearly 2 weeks ago . My BP is usually around 118/75 . I just don’t know what’s going on . But once again frightens the shit out of me !! Please help . I’m thinking Drs ?

Your blood pressure will be a bit different if you were active before you took the reading.

Yes go to the docs just put your mind at ease.

The thing is I feel really crook when it happens . I’m not convinced it’s a type of panic attack

No it wasn’t just because I took the bin out . I ride horses and yes my heart rate is up but nothing like this . This was just scary as !

Get it checked by a doctor.

Best way to work out what's causing it.

Jodz how are you doing now??

I understand. It is severe anxiety hitting you.]

Has nothing to do with exertion of walking 500 metres. It has

more to with you anticipating something happening while you

are outside as well as holding your breath or shallow breathing

in this anticipation or what if thought.

It is reflected in your blood pressure. Once you are back in the house

and you start to relax and deep breath, your pressure will start to go down

slowly until it reaches your norm of 118/75.

Find a quiet place Jodz and breathe. xx

Agora1 it started to come down within half an hour . And yes I was having trouble taking a deep breath . It was 125/80 about hour half after it happened .

That feeling in my chest was just terrible and I can say I never have had that before .

But why is it hitting me when I feel the most relaxed , I do not get it !!

Agora 1 thanx again you always reassure me and it def helps xx

You may feel relaxed Jodz but your subconscious mind is always feeding you information, even while sleeping. It's one of the reasons we may wake up in fear. The mind is on 24/7 as a way of protecting us from harm. Unfortunately, It plays back not only the positive events in our life/day but also the negative.

Once that thought is played through, we react with fear and tense up automatically which clamps down on our diaphragm making us struggle to take that breath. The thing is that it is not coming from the heart or the lungs. Once we become proficient in deep breathing automatically, we can actually prevent the symptoms from escalating as well as stopping it before it goes anywhere.

Know that it is not harmful when it is momentary responding to anxiety or stress. It's when people aren't aware of a continual high pressure reading that it can become a problem. You are okay Jodz. You are safe. Know that I'm always watching out for you as well as the others in the group. :) xx

Agora1 I was doing some deep breathing but not a lot as I couldn’t focus , but I am trying . I have been listening to Mindfullness apps .

Agora 1 also it felt as if my heart was skipping beats but when I checked my pulse it felt fine . My chest was just feeling the worst .

Yes you def help with calming effects for me that’s for sure .. Even though when I’m in that state , what you say def makes sense .

I think I’m having a great day then bang !! It just lurks around waiting to wreck my day . Xx

Jodz once you are in that state, it is real hard to do meditation or proper deep breathing. I practice both each and every day, multiple times a day. It makes me

prepared automatically w/o thinking when I feel stressed or before going out the door, I will start my deep breathing, relax my shoulders, plant my feet firmly on the ground, walk tall and straight. This allows us to not only feel but look in charge.

I use meditation and deep breathing before falling asleep as well as the very first thing upon awakening. It's like preparing for a marathon getting ready for the big event. I'm prepared which makes it easier to kick Anxiety to the curb. I want to get you to that point as well. And I know you will get there soon. Talk out loud to this Anxiety Bully if you have to. Enough is enough of it taking control of your life. It is your turn now to no longer exist but to live life to the fullest. You know I care. xx

I've been looking over YouTube but can't really find what I'm looking for. Let's back up a little. Have you Accepted Anxiety? That's the key in getting rid of your symptoms. First is acceptance and then is allowing the symptoms to by pass you w/o responding to it. This takes practice. Again it can not be done while you are in the throws of severe fear at the beginning. . Everything anxiety gives us, comes from the mind. It is not physically caused. That is important to know. Our brain was set up in being the watch tower that looks after us. When danger is considered imminent, the brain sends up a red flag to fight or flee. Since this isn't real, the adrenaline pours into our system not having anywhere to go and so it goes to our muscles (the heart, chest, arms, legs etc.

Unless we move those muscles it overpowers us and we feel as if we are frozen in time. When the heart is beating fast because of anxiety, we need to pace, to move so that the heart settles down by using up the adrenaline. Have you read the book by Dr. Claire Weekes yet? "Hope & Help for your Nerves" It's highly recommended on this forum because it works. I read it years ago but never really understood how important her words were until more recently. I can shave years off your struggling by telling you her concept in acceptance of anxiety is the foundation of which ridding yourself of anxiety is built on.

Let me know if you've read the book. Once isn't enough. It will become your reference for years to come. YouTube does have videos of Dr Weekes teachings

as well. Anxiety is a mind game. You have to find what will work for you in getting control back of your life. CBT, Self Hypnosis, Meditation, Deep Breathing, Visualization, Mindfullness, Biofeedback etc. All of these are powerful ways, when practiced, to get control and not allow your mind to control you.

I've been recently working with something called the "Five Second Rule" (also on You Tube) It might be something you want to look into. It's by Mel Robbins. I'm not familiar enough yet but have been trying to use it and it seems like it has possibility. Jodz, I always tell people giving up is NOT an option. There are so many methods and tools out there, it's just a matter of finding what works the best for you. I'm a big believer in therapy, not so much for them to give you an answer but more that they will guide you. The answer needs to come from within you.

My best dear Talk later.. xx
