Alcohol and heart rate?

Hey all! Nice short one today ;L

Just wondering if anyone else experiences a significantly accelerated heart rate whilst consuming beverages of the alcoholic variety? I noticed this quite a while ago but just kinda ignored it, although for obvious reasons, that’s becoming slightly more difficult!

My resting (regardless of how much I drink) will usually increase to anywhere between 90-120, while moving around (even just to go to the toilet, downstairs to get some food etc.) will bring it up to around 140, with 145 being the highest I’ve measured (although that was after a rather brisk walk).

Just want to know if this is normal or not before I go speaking to my doctor! Is it something that’s supposed to happen, maybe part of anxiety (bare in mind my anxiety seems to disappear for the most part when intoxicated), or could it even be something to do with Sertraline (25mg / day)? Also are there any ways (besides the obvious ;L) to remedy this?

Cheers in advance! X

Hey I do, my heart is usually bout 120bpm when drinking I think it’s normal and nothing to worry about many things increase your heart rate mine used to jump 30bpm when I went for a wee when I got up In the middle of night and walking it went from like 80-90bpm to 130-160bpm and I got put on beta blockers to slow it down a bit. But if worried do go get checked out by the doctor to be safe and mine disappears for the most part when drinking then the next day I usually feel awful and have a high heart rate all day.

The U.S. F.D.A. recommends you take NO alcohol with Sertraline (known as Zoloft in the USA).

Sertraline is a 'depressant', as is alcohol. With the system slowed down by both, I'd imagine the heart has to work harder when any activity is undertaken, resulting in higher B.P..
