IIIboy, the word to not focus on is, "future" heart disease. Remember we only have the present. When we start projecting down the road, anxiety tags along for the ride. Don't do that to yourself. :) x

Heart disease is caused by narrowing of arteries by cholestoral plaque through eating too much saturated fat and not enough fruit and fresh vegetables. Beside blocking the flow of blood bringing oxygen to the heart it causes the heart to work faster to compensate and this can cause heart failure.

There is no mechanism I know about whereby anxiety can block arteries or weaken the heart muscle and I have never heard of a death certificate whereby anxiety is given as the primary or secondary cause of death.

So no reason for you to get scared.

I worry about the same thing. Anxiety and panic often causes blood pressure spikes. Over time these spikes weaken your arteries and can lead to strokes and heart disease. I am older and have had anxiety since withdrawing from benzos. So now this is my number one concern day and night! I am consumed by it which, of course, ADDS to my anxiety!!
