Yes! It's very trial and error. Have you been diagnosed? I take mebeverine 3 times a day and Imodium when needed. Sometimes buscopan helps. I follow low FODMAP diet and avoid food triggers. Eating slowly and avoiding large meals help to avoid problems. I also take a daily probiotic and digestive enzyme after evening meal. Anxiety is a trigger for me so I meditate and have counselling. No, I haven't been diagnosed with it. But I know that Anxiety can be a trigger and I ate a big meal full of carbs and crap last night, so that can be it too. But since I have anxiety, my stomach is weak, churning, cramping, I feel like sh*t.

My gastroenterologist recommends the FODMAP diet, probiotics and peppermint pills. The Fodmap diet is quite restrictive and usually suggested to do with a dietician. It is helpful and can also be found on the internet.

Oh IBS!!! This has been the Bain of my life since I was a teenager!

These are some of the things I discovered.

1: IBS is a blanket diagnosis for something which doctors have no idea about. Literally, several doctors I have asked have told me that when it comes to the guy and anything that could be diet related they have very little idea what it is so they use the term IBS.

Why is this? Well because doctors are not trained in medical school to look at diet, they’re only trained to treat symptoms with medicine.

2: Shop bought bread I get a reaction too but not homemade bread! This makes me think that it maybe preservatives or other products that affect me rather than particular flour or grain, however, cutting down on this most certainly has a beneficial outcome.

4: I found peppermint capsules to be the best alleviating pill, pure and condensed peppermint.

5: Dairy Free. Yes I went dairy free and found this had a huge difference on my health and well-being. I lost weight and became far more energised than I was and also this alleviated many stomach problems. This is also the most difficult as there is dairy in everything.

So it took me many years to fully control it and change my habits and find out exactly what foods affect my stomach but I only eat homemade bread now, when I do eat pasta it is only fresh egg pasta. No dairy. More fruit and veg.

My advice is do a cut month where you cut out all the foods above for one month and then reintroduce each one to find out what are the trigger foods for you.

Happy hunting!

Fybogel mebeverine sachets off the doctor. One sachet twice a day.
