An ultrasound, blood work, multiple EKGs and multiple doctor visits including one yesterday idk why I still feel this way I learned yesterday that I lost 14 more pounds and still going and I'm very proud of myself but I cant shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen to me. And am I the only one who hears or sees the mentioning of my health fear like everywhere? Whether it's from a commercial or a TV show or even amist conversation between other people I hear heart disease & diabetes being mentioned. I wish I could live at my job or at the hospital because because I feel 10x better when I am there, but my real question is does anybody feel this symptom with their anxiety: chest pains/tightness caused by breathing hard/deep or laying on their side? I would really appreciate an answer.

Thank you πŸ™ƒ

Hi Keejay, We seem to be bombarded with medical issues and medications and their side effects as well as attorneys advertising suing when catastrophic issues happen during surgery or with meds. How can the anxious person not be effected. All the physical symptoms you feel are a part of our anxiety. It is a matter of learning to accept what we feel as not dangerous and as a result of our tight, tense muscles.

I have a little ritual that I go through at night in preparing myself for a good night's sleep. First thing is to let go of the day's stresses. Don't let any negative thoughts come into your mind. I put my headphones on and listen to relaxation/imagery while I deep breathe. It's better than any med I use to be on in calming me down. Nothing bothers me like it use to. I no longer have the fears that would come about with everything I felt. That in itself took away the symptoms.

Learning what you body needs to relax is important. Breathing slow and deeply helps in relaxing those tight chest muscles and makes breathing easier. As for lying on your side, I'm assuming you mean the left side. I haven't done that in ages because of feeling my heart skip and palpate. We do the best we can with what we've been given. You aren't alone Keejay :)

Hi Keejay,

You are very worried about your health so you need to trust the doctors. Having all the tests tells you that you are physically okay.

Our wellbeing depends on both our bodies and minds being well. Anxiety comes in many forms and symptoms. No-one will feel the same way as you do.

You have two choices, either accept this state of physical good health or find some way to stop your mind from having unhelpful thoughts, easier said than done.

Dr Simon Knowles from Swinburn University writes " Unhelpful thoughts or thinking errors (also called negative thoughts, mistaken beliefs) like these have several characteristics. They are:

 Automatic – they just spring to mind

 Distorted – they do not fit all the facts or align with reality

 Unhelpful – they keep you feeling depressed and unable to change things

 Involuntary – you do not choose to have them and they are hard to shake"

He offers 20 questions of challenge to unhelpful thoughts. When you have an unhelpful thought, write down the automatic thought that has occurred and then ask yourself one of the questions then recording your answer

Keejay, all the symptoms you descrive including the non cardiac chest pain are common symptoms of anxiety and several people mention them on this forum each day. The inability to accept the results of many, many medical tests showing that physically there is nothing wrong with you is also very, very common as a symptom of anxiety.

The problem is that anxiety doesn't show up on scans, stress doesn't show on blood tests, it's the result of your nervous system becoming over sensitised through over work, worry, stress etc

Each time you stress because of some worrying thought about your health generates fear that maintains the over sensitivity of your nerves. This is the process you need to stop in order fir your nerves to recover and your health obsession and chest pain to cease.

You do this my accepting all the physical symptoms of anxiety and all the bad thoughts, just accept them and don't fight them, but attach less importance to them.

If you read 'Self help with your nerves' by Claire Weekes available from Amazon you would understand fully what is happening to you and her acceptance therapy which in thevladt 50 years has helped hundreds of thousands offers you the opportunity to recover fully.

Yeah i get this alot during the day and night
