Vestibular Migraine

Hi- does anyone on here suffer with Vestibular Migraine? This is what the doctors think I have. I have off balance feelings almost every day and I feel light headed. I do have migraines once or twice a month- but I am off balance every day. I feel like I'm on a rocking boat and I feel like I need to sit down all the time or I'm light headed. I also loose my concentration and I feel like my head is heavy or full. Any advice would be helpful!

Hi fashionista7, Years ago I had the same symptoms as you. Never once was Vestibular Migraine brought up. I had an MRI and was under the care of a Neurologist and Rheumatologist. I suffered both Migraine and Contraction (tension) headaches on a daily basis. Physical therapy help immensely by working out the spasms/trigger points that caused the contraction headaches. The off balance, rocking boat and lightheaded were address by a therapist who taught me meditation and deep breathing and acceptance as this being a part of anxiety and not a dire health issue.

Now that I look back, I can see she was right. The headaches are gone, I'm off the rocking boat, I am no longer off balance and when I do on occasion get light headed, I know that I am most likely dehydrated. The heavy/full feeling in my head is addressed by meditating and relaxation techniques. Calming down the nervous system and relaxing the muscles in the head and neck can make the pressure feeling subside. Many times it's coming from disc problems in the neck or gripping down with the muscles in our face causing pressure to build up.

I'm not going against your doctors diagnosis for each one of us is different and they know your case history. The fact that all this went away, I can look back and analyze it more clearly now as to what was going on at the time. I wish you Good Luck in finding the right answer for you and know that there are ways that will bring you peace and calm with your equilibrium. xx

I don't have that diagnosis but I have the same symptoms. I started amytryptaline recently and it has helped. Some days I still rock but most days are good now. Amytryptaline is good for controlling headaches and this kind of off balance feeling in lower doses. It is an antidepressant in higher doses. I also get migraines once in a while but my rocking was all the time
