I was wondering if anyone knew how to combat anxiety symptoms if you're in public or with friends etc? I get a very cloudy/heavy head(ache), nausea, shakiness, teary eyed, and especially an accelerated heartbeat? The feeling doesn't go away and I'm consumed by overprocessing information until it's squeezed to a pulp and it's really exhausting and usually just makes me more upset. So if anyone has an advise on how to stop overthinking? Or how to stop thinking about a specific situation that caused an onset of anxiety (in terms of daily occurrences) it'd be very helpful!

1428SRTYBK, the answer is "deep breathing".. We get so worried that this might happen that it perpetuates the probability of it happening. It's a learned behavior. What you think, you will experience.
I use to dread going out in public/with friends. Not because I was shy or didn't enjoy myself but more because it was sooo wearing trying to keep up this façade of being normal. I'd go home with a tension headache and completely worn out.
Once I got into Meditation and Deep Breathing, I started using my deep breathing more and more. It was the key to relaxation no matter where I was. Driving, shopping, watching tv, talking on the phone, being out with people etc. No one notices it and it is always with us. The idea is to practice until you are able to do this automatically w/o thinking twice.
When you deep breathe properly, it allows for both your mind and your body to come to full relaxation mode.. I also learned that listening to people rather than think I had to be the one to keep the conversation going, helped reduce the anxious feelings. It's little things like this that can make a big difference in how we deal with anxiety. The deep breathing will also work when you first feel a panic coming on. If you catch it in time, it will actually stop the panic attack from happening. But remember...practice makes perfect. You can't wait until something happens, it needs to be done daily. Thank you so much Agora1! I'll defiantly keep deep breathing in mind! I wish there was a way to control your brain and make it think whatever it wants but defiantly a struggle to not over-process information! And I totally get what u mean when u say feeling like u need to talk all the time and the facade because most of the time when I'm not feeling good I fake it and after have the symptoms you were describing!
Do you see how we are all the same. It took a forum to let us know we are not alone in our suffering. In controlling the brain and the mind chatter it may go into at times or other times in "ruminating" the same things over and over, I find that imagery helps a lot. Again it is something that needs to be practiced when not having a major anxiety event. Imagery can also be found on YouTube. I find visual direction in learning a method is more intensive than just reading about it. Good Luck in whatever you choose that works for you. x
