Breathing Anxiety

When I feel a little anxious, my mind tends to obsess over my breathing, it starts to control it. I become aware of every breath I take and it scares me when I think I'm not breathing enough or my breathing becomes shallower and I feel like I'm going to die. Idk how to distract myself to not think about my breathing and focus on other stuff. Anyone have advice?

Give yourself a simple thing to do which requires thinking/doing. The best tip I have is to wear a rubber band on your wrist. Flick it when you think about breathing or become anxious. The sting brings you back to the present.
