Antidepressant Advice
I just started lexapro as well. I believe it is a low dose. From the research I've done, it takes at least a month to kick in and start working. So I'm taking xanax until I can balance things out. Most people don't need their medications forever. If you're concerned you should talk to your doctor though. They will be more helpful. Best wishes!
Hi Tweetg, There are several of us on Lexapro including myself. Been on it 6 years and am doing well. It has been a good drug for me. Wish you well. As for how long you would be on it depends on your doctor as well as how it works for you.
I'm late to post, but I've been taking it nearly 2 years. I've been on Zoloft and Celexa in the past too which are in the same class (SSRIs). I was switched from Zoloft to Celexa when I became pregnant with my son. The doctor felt it was safer. Then I switched from Celexa to Lexapro because Celexa made me gain weight at an alarming rate.
I started with 10 mg of the Lexapro per day but I'm currently on 12.5 mg and doing well. When I first started, I had about a week of nausea, but it wasn't anything unbearable. I do notice it does make me tired, but any antidepressant I've ever took does that so I use it to my advantage and take it at night. It works really well for me that way and this far I'm really pleased with the way it's worked. I still occasionally have breakthrough anxiety and my doctor has prescribed Xanax for those instances, but I usually only need one every couple of weeks.
