I know what you mean when it is dark , my thoughts can increase to , I have a little night light next to my bed and I have that on till I am nearly asleep and then I switch it of even though sometimes I have fallen to sleep and it has been on all night but it does not matter as long as it keeps my thoughts at bay and I get a good nights sleep that is most important

Maybe try that at night and see if it helps you
