Has anyone tried melatonin pills and do they work for sleep?
Melatonin pills: Has anyone tried melatonin... - Anxiety Support
Melatonin pills
Yes they work great for me. I take a very low dose 2.5mg and that's enough to put me out.
Did not work for me. It's called a hypnoticum in the list of medications. But I'm very sensitive.
Thank you both. I'm trying to get all the opinions I can.
I did sleep but they made me feel depressed
Maybe you will be fine on them as I suffer from depression anyway and Im sensitive to lots of meds.Give them a try as theres nothing worse than not getting to sleep which I have at the moment.
My daughter takes 4mg. It makes her sleepy but she still only sleeps on and off for a few hours. She has taken 6mg and that gives her a better sleep.
I was wondering myself on wether I could try these , I have insomnia but refuse to take sleeping tabs, I am on meds for anxiety and depression, I do however have cirrohsis but people I know with the same disease take these , some say the side effects were unpleasant some say they worked .. Just would not know what strength to try ?
Something that works for me, are Kirkland's Sleeping Aids - not sure if I can mention that on here but they contain Doxylamine which is the ingredient that used to be in Syndol before they removed it and really helped people with migraines because of their drowsy effect. I think they are an antihistamine. I take a quarter of a pill sometimes at night. They do leave me feeling a bit groggy but then I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue so always feel like that mornings.
Doesn't really work for me. I took 5mg
As every medication it affects everyone differently so I think you won't know till you try and either this will make you sleep like a baby leaving you with no side effects or maybe you'll have the worst side effects but try it. I've been meaning to try it myself. I can never fall asleep at night only during the day and it's not very good and healthy either to do that and what's worse is that for some reason every time I have something to do the next day it seems like for no reason I can't fall asleep.
Everyone is different so your results will vary. For me they make me very sleepy, but then I have super vivid stressful dreams which is a worse outcome. Many people get vivid dreams from melatonin and they usually aren't good but can be. It doesn't matter the dosage for me. I've varied from .5 to 10mg. But Melatonin works fine for my wife and she has no negative side effects so you can try them.
Melatonin is supposed to re-set the circadian rhythms of the brain with the aim of re-wiring, if you will, the particular area of the brain thought to be responsible for sleep. It did very little if anything for me. Warm milk with a couple of drops of vanilla essence( or if you are lucky enough to find a shop that sells real vanilla pods, one vanilla pod with the seeds scraped into in the warm milk) is a tried and tested alternative sleep aid since milk contains a natural antidepressant called L-Tryptophan although that in itself is available in tablet form on prescription from your GP.
It seems a lot of people have thoughts on melatonin so I'm glad this came up. I was thinking maybe it was a benign supplement but maybe not so much. I have ongoing problems with too vivid dreams/nightmares so for me I think I'm going to go ahead and pass now but I'm glad it works for some. Im going to try harder first with the suggestions made here and some of the things that we already know we should do. This forum is so helpful and I appreciate everyone here.
I take zolpidem er. I use a prescription med as the over the counter doesn't work for me. Also side effects are memory loss, can cause you to do things w/o consciously knowing you are doing it ( I made eggs before going to bed and woke up wondering who left burnt eggs in pan), it works fast and you won't know it. One time I took it and had to pick somebody up from somewhere. I woke up next morning the person I picked up said they were never riding with me again. Apparently I tried to hit solid objects in the ground and they thotbwe were going to die. It was at that point I actually remembered the drive home. So make sure you are in for the night. Just want you all to be aware it can be a dangerous drug. First hand experience.
