I'm not sure if this is categorized as anxiety, but does anybody get random thoughts pop into their head and then worry excessively over them even though you know they aren't true?

Yes and it's definetely anxiety, I've had this problem for a long while but I am born worrier anyway!.

I think I read somewhere that anxiety will cause you to think of a negative thought and hang on to it, we have to be really strong and say to ourselves 'I Have no time to think of this right now' and then try to get on with what you are doing, certainly do not let it grow in your mind by worrying and over thinking it, which we with anxiety, are prone to do.

The more we think of a negative thought the worse it becomes.imagine how tired it makes our brains.

Don,t fight them . Let them come and sail through them. You don,t fight big waves you go under them .

Relax and let them pass. I have been there before and it is the only way to cope.
