Hi Catherineamanda.

When you first start taking a new medicine it take a little while to get into your system usually about 4 - 5 weeks. There can be some side effects at first but these differ in each person so I can't tell you what to expect. What you must do is keep taking them you will soon feel the benefit.

Thanks for that, I did take citlopram about 3 years ago for 7 months. Had horrible side effects for 2 weeks, then didnt feel like I was on anything. It might have helped cant really tell but I definitely still had my anxiety disorder afterwards, didnt take that away:-( Coming off was fine so I hope to just be on this for about 6 months again to give me some space to use my CBT skills and stop checking on my body constantly for this pain I have.

Hi I've been on sertraline for anxiety and depression for 4years now,I found when I first started I was a bit spaced out and had trouble concentrating this lasted maybe 3 weeks but once this settled I started feeling much better I still have days when my mood jumps up and down a lot and I have to take ant-acids cause it can upset your stomache but it's well worth sticking with it I hope the sertraline helps xx

I've been taking sertraline for a week and a half now. But started at 50mgs which I personally wouldn't recommend. But I'm getting used to it now. My depression is getting better as I'm sure yours will xx

That is a high does to start with as mine is for health anxiety and I am having a panic attack just thinking about taking it I will be starting on 10mg as I have got the liquid dose. My doctor was like you should just take 50mg as it will be fine the side effects might be the same on 50 and 10 but with 10 not benefit, I was like no way because at least on 10 if I dont like it or cant tolerate it I can stop straight away.

I was put on sertraline for depression/and awful anxiety. I was so nervous when I took my first tablet, but thought that I couldn't feel much worse. The anxiety was worse but the depression started to lift quite quickly. I've actually been out today which I wouldn't have been able to do previously. I do hope these meds can help us both xx

So do I.How long you been on them?I am putting my cbt into action all the time now 100% and am seeing improvements in myself but you know this awful panic that comes over me every hour or so is a killer, hopefully they will help me accept this pelvic pain as anxiety and not keep checking on it even when it is not there!Got to remember 3 years ago I was at rock bottom and within 6months I was back on top wish now I had put more effort in to get rid of it completely:-(but this time has taught me no half measures, things have got to change.x x

I've been on them since Tuesday last week so early days. It's good you're doing cbt. I've never done/been offered it. I know what you mean about the panic feelings. I lose all my common sense when I get them! But as I said the sertraline seems to be starting to do its job as I'm sure it will with you. Things will change for us both! xx

That's unbelievable, you should definitely be at least offered it, nhs aren't that good. I go privately, it's expensive but worth it.Maybe u should ask your doctor when u r feeling a bit better, think u might wait 3 months but with the tablets kicking in u will be able to implement the techniques they give u alot easier. A really good set of books are "Overcoming ....." there is loads of them I have the ocd and health anxiety ones and use a lot of techniques from them. X x

Hi Sam66,

Took my first dose last night was not sure weather to do it or not as was getting a bit more of a handle on these ocd like thoughts in relation to my health anxiety but decided not at times it is still so bad it is paralyzing and could get worse.

I only took .5ml in the end as some websites were saying that 1ml=20mg and I wanted to start on 10mg. Had 1mg of diazapam aswell to help me sleep which wasnt too bad. Feeling a little dopey today but more panicked not because of setraline but my usual thoughts about tablets like what is this doing to me but trying to keep it in perspective with these are only increasing my serotine levels and if I work with them I will be better alot sooner , I can do it.Will take the same dose tonight and for a few days and see how I go before I increase it to 1ml. Aim is to be on 5ml=50mg (I think will check with doctor when I see her on Friday) by end of month start of next month.

How r u?x x
